"It has dawned on me that I am closing in on 70."

Fundamental misconception. 70 is closing in on you.

I turn 70 next year, having survived leukemia, a stroke and loss of a kidney. The amazing thing is, I'm playing better than I ever did.

The scoring is worse, but I'm playing better.

The one comment here that really resonated with me (aside from the personal struggles, such as those endured by Patrick and A.G., with whom I deeply sympathize) was Rich's: The concentration tends to go around age 60. Physically I feel okay; the knees have been bad for years, but that never stopped me from playing well at times. I just make far too many mental mistakes now. Maybe the question is, at what age do you start getting dumber?

David,

That seems to be the elusive part doesn't it ?
Hitting the ball well, putting and chipping decently, but at the end of the day, your scores are higher.

Rick,

"Concentration" is probably more difficult to maintain on a constant basis, but, I think it's possible to focus in on the shot and circumstances at hand for the requisite amount of time.

It may be that your concentration is the same, but, the things circling around in your head have multiplied and ratcheted up a notch or two making it more difficult to isolate on the shot and circumstances at hand.

Whatever it is, and we all have different war camps to contend with, scoring seems to be more elusive.
