I've seen charity auctions/outings offered at a lot of great courses in the US.  Augusta National is probably the one exception to the rule.

Having walked every square inch of the property during a practice round and again during competition round, I'd love to play it.

How much would I pay?  Unless an opportunity presented itself, I don't know.

First, I have a problem with Augusta's "ask to be invited and you will never play it" attitude.  I have no problem with private clubs, but  I honestly believe that those privileged in our society to belong to a private club at least have an obligation to share that privilege with others that would truly enjoy it, where possible.  It is the reason that I am so open to hosting people at my club and that so many others on this site are open to hosting at their clubs.  And when we do host other people, we don't feel like we are doing a great favor to our guests, but are grateful that are guests would make the effort to join us.  Augusta feels the opposite and it is difficult for me to honor this arrogance.

Second, I would ask everyone if you just evaluated the golf course and not the tournament history or the connection due to watching it on tv for so many years, is it a top 10 course in the US?  I have talked to many that have played Augusta who don't have it in their top 5.  (1) Pine Valley, (2) Cypress Point, (3) NGLA, (4) Shinnecock Hills, (5) Sand Hills, (6) Pacific Dunes, (7) Pebble Beach and take your pick amongst Merion, Oakmont, Fishers Island, Pinehurst #2, Kiawah Ocean  .....  I know the majority won't agree with me, but their complete arrogance of not sharing a place that many Americans hold very special is a major turn off.

I'm not sure exactly how much but it would probably be double what I'd pay for the next course on the list.

I would pay $1000 per month for the rest of my life to be have the talent to earn the right and to play in the Masters just one year.  I have never played Pebble Beach because I thought I might one day qualify to play there in a tournament.  That hasn't worked out very well.  As a matter of fact the USGA wrote me a letter requesting that I quit trying.

Wouldn't it be great to show up to a course and have people say.."That guy played in the Masters one year, what the hell happened to his game?"

Your last line made my day!!!

You know a lot of people who have played Augusta? I need to hang with you ;). Augusta is the one course that I know VERY few people who have played..

Bob, so if someone offered you a round at Augusta for $1050, you'd say no?

Folks pay that much just for tickets to the Masters, much less play the course! :o

The way ANGC is going, they would have to:

1)  Change their practice on women memberships
2)  Apologize to the general public for espousing such a shameful practice for so long.
3)  And then at that point, I would maybe play it offered for free.

Anything less than that...no thanks!

I think Pine Valley, with a caddy is around $300. I think that is enough for any course. More than that and it becomes more about the money than the game.

I would pay 10 000$ for 36 holes. But i have to tune up my game before doing that.

The guy on his avatar would likely be more concerned with not having been paid himself.

I've given this topic a lot of thought since I'm closing in on the last few courses on the Golf Mag top 100 U.S. list.  Augusta is the only
one that continues to elude me...    I would of course be happy to pay all the guest and caddy fees,  but I would also be willing to
donate up to $10,000 to charity, preferably one for disadvantaged kids in the Augusta area or in another city of the member's choice.

Romney's in town today.  $2500/head to attend the party, $10,000/head to meet and be photographed with him.

Hmmmm.

Those that would pay no more than $300+/- are posuers.  Drop them off at Washington Road with their checkbook and see what happens.

The most I have ever paid for a round of golf is £130.  There are courses I know I would be willing to pay more than that for.  Augusta is one but by no means top of the list.  Indeed it sisn't in the top 5.  I wasn't willing to pay $499 to play Pebble, so I'm certain I wouldn't go that high for Augusta.  £250 sounds like a sensible top line, so what, $400?
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I don't know what I would pay.  Much would depend on if it is convenient for me to be in the area.  However, if you said to me hop on a plane and you are on the tee at 10am Friday morning and it will cost $300 plus accommodation on Augusta grounds I would have a serious conversation with my wife.  If you said it was $1000 and staying at the club is not an option I wouldn't even entertain the idea being in England.

If you ever get a chance to play it for $5000 but are prepared to turn it down because its over your limit, I'll take care of the $0.01 because I'm a nice guy  ;D

If I envisage a price above US$500 for Augusta National, I just begin to think about the experiences I could have for the same money.

Nine rounds at St Andrews Beach.
Three full days' golf at Barnbougle Dunes.

I was under the impression SAB was private. Is that the case Scott? Those two courses are on my list and I love how reasonably priced they are.
