Where did you caddie for him? (What course I mean).

I'll be there the whole weekend covering the tournament.  While I almost always wear all black, I'll wear a Garden City green shirt on Sunday.  We can discuss all the architecture we like during the round, but closing ceremonies of the tournament are wonderful and a lot of fun to watch:)

Michael, I'll greet Scissorhands and everyone else for you.  I'll miss following you around, but may see you at one of the other am events this year:)

Parking...that's a good question! I'm not sure where the general public parks.  I know if you take the LIRR to the Garden City stop, the club is just steps away:):)  Mucci...any suggestions?

Angela,

I'm pretty sure there's a school just across the street (Stewart Ave)
There's another school, St Paul's I think, one block east of the club, on the corner of Stewart.
Wear comfortable shoes.  While the course isn't hilly, it has rolling terrain.
Wear something you like that won't distract the competitors  ;D
Unfortunately, I have a conflicting event this weekend and won't be able to attend.
Have fun.

ha ha ha... I know I'm a nerd, but I was never compared to princessing Leia from Star Wars.

Thanks also for the warning advice to wear non-distracting cloth :) ha ha ha

There's a terrific Chinese restaurant just a few blocks away from the club in a mini-mall

The Orchid

You won't be disappointed

Pat, is that the same strip that has Waterzooi in it? Perhaps this crowd would be interested in beard pulling over a Trapist Ale and a crock of Mussells?
Or if anyone is from out of town, stop by Grimaldi's on Franklin Ave. May not be as good as the original in Brooklyn, but it is very good, and there will not be an hour long line!

Keith,

I don't know, it may be, but, I've always made a bee line for The Orchid.

Whenever my son hears me say that I'm going to GCGC he asks if I'm going to the Orchid, and if I am, he asks that I bring him home some food.

Pat-

You really talk that Chinese place up...you must be an investor :-)  It is a Chinese place in a strip mall after all...

Hope you are well.

Ed "Scissorhands" Gibstein took the medal! His 3-under 70 was one better than Joe Saladino.  They were the only two players of 120 to break par.  John Ervesti broke up what would have been a 16-for-1 playoff that was a Chinese Fire Drill waiting to happen before Ervesti, the second to last guy to finish posted a 73 that knocked all 16 would be competitors into the next flight.  For his trouble, He gets Curt Coulter of Oakmont.  More details soon...great day!

Gibstein decimated both opponents today, winning 5&4 over an excellent player, Scott Osler, then  manhandling Oakmont's Curt Coulter 7&6.    However the irresistible force will meet the immovable object in the semis - 2010 champ Big Ben Hayes.  Joe Saladino also won both easily 4&3, he'll face TJ brudzinski who beat his doubles partner Mike Kelley in the first time they've ever squared off in a match play tournament.

Also, congrats to GCAs Greg Stebbins, who won his match today and will play tomorrow morning.  Those of you coming, make sure to cheer him on and give him a power boost!

I got out there over the weekend and was awestruck at the quality of the holes and routing. The rugged terrain in concert with the vistas out over the golf course was breathtaking. The absolute best of Travis and Emmet are evident from the opening tee shot and I really could not wait to get to each new hole. The views out over the golf course are stunning and to me had a Shinnecock feel where in certain spots you could pick up six or seven holes on certain lines of sight. Bunkering is masterful and as cavernous and well sited as anywhere I have seen. I am still replaying the holes in my mind as much as I can remember as I am not one who has the ability to remember them in sequence after one trip around. I came away with the feeling that if God made anything better he kept it for himself.

Yes, congrats to Joe, who beat Big Ben Hayes 1-up in the final.  Gibby lost in the a.m. semi to Ben 1-up.  Great run for Scissorhands.

Also, a big congratulations to GCA.com's own Greg Stebbins, who held off GCGC member Billy Kreitsek in the match that had the largest gallery other than the championship final!  He won in 19 holes.
