I liked the one at WaWa.

You might know about chicken fried steak and BBQ but people have been slain for comments like that. WaWa is good for gas, coffee, and Tastykakes.

Dear Tim,

And especially iced tea.

Sincerely,
Kyle H

No, no no...Pudge's in Blue Bell is 1st choice.  And it is close to Horsham.  Mike Blake, I am surprised you didn't bring this one up.  Let's get to Lederach and then go here afterwards.

They moved about 200' north on 202 a few years ago.  I was here back in April after playing Lulu with MM.

The new Pudge's in Blue Bell lacks the ambiance of the old place. Nevertheless, it's good and loaded with meat.

The best Philadelphia cheese steak is probably at some mythical place that, for whatever reason, hasn't yet been built.

Seriously what I loved about the Philadelphia area was that there were so many places that offered very good cheese steaks and deli.  (I like a good cheese steak but think I more crave a good italian hoagie with sweet and hot peppers.)   Is Centrella's on Brookline still around? Not sure if it the best in either category but it sure was good.  The meat in the cheese steak was quite tasty.

Steve,

Pudge's ranks high with me and I haven't seen any decline in the quality since they moved.  Is "ambiance" food speak for years of grease build up?

Bob,

The new Pudge's is lacking in the grease quotient and the decor is too nice. The old place was much more intimate.

David M,

You are so right. Trying to get a great hoagie on the  west coast is almost impossible.

I try on occasion but I am almost always disappointed.   It may be easier to find an edible cheesesteak, but that is nearly impossible as well.

I guess each region has its low brow cuisine.  I don't recall many good taco stands in the mid-Atlantic area, although with immigration patterns that may have changed by now.

I think the best cheesesteaks are at Merion with their handmade potato chips.

The real shame of a number of Philly clubs is that many don't sell cheesesteaks.  Oh, the shame!  :)

Dan, I had a good one at Riverton last summer during an event.

I like Pudge's, even though there's way too much meat loaded on there.  I always send first-timers into the 'city' to Pats for a cheesesteak.  And while Pat's may not be the best steak, the atmosphere for a first-timer is pretty cool and always memorable.

Maybe we can get some folks together for a Montgomery County steaks & golf outing.

Montgomery County is loaded with great sandwich spots. Silvio's in Hatboro bakes their own rolls and bread. They have outstanding hoagies, cheesesteaks and strombolis. Phil's Tavern in Broad Axe has been my "go to" for huge cheesesteaks for nearly 40 years. They serve the cheesesteaks with a fork and you need it! Rich's Deli across from Germantown Academy serves some of the best hoagies around. I would bet their cheesesteaks are good as well however I have a hard time not getting a roast beef or ham hoagie. I had completely forgotten about Mr. Ron's Publick House and Pudge's until reading this thread. Brings back great memories from high school and college days. We have nothing like these places in the DC area.... May be time for a road trip north.

BTW a great sandwich place in Newark, Delaware on Route 896 (about 1 mile west of I95 near the U of D) is Malin's Deli. Awesome steaks and hoagies. I recommend the fresh turkey!
