It's not six hours from Halifax airport to Cape Breton. I did the airport to Highlands Links in about five, and that was with a couple of stops and a jam or two. Cabot Links is about three hours and a bit to Halifax.

Flying back to Heathrow from Halifax was weird - such a short flight!

According to Google Maps, the drive time from Halifax to Inverness is about 4-1/2 hrs.  According to Yahoo Maps it is about 3-3/4 hrs.  When I did it myself several years ago I'd gotten in very late (such as midnight) at the Halifax airport and drove just about 1-1/2 hrs north before stopping for the "night" and proceeding the next day.  Keeping that in mind, it did not seem like a bad drive.

I always checked based on going from Halifax to Highlands Links (since there was no CL on previous) trips.  5 hours, 47 minutes according to GoogleMaps.

I always find Google Maps adds some time to a trip. You can readily connect from halifax to Sydney -- that puts you an hour and a half from Highlands or Cabot.

Please - if you make the trip, drive the Cabot Trail.  This is one of the world's greatest drives - I dare say you'll remember it for the rest of your life.

Just don't do what I did - drive the road at night.  You don't know what dark is till you're up there trying to make it back to Cheticamp from Highlands Links without freaking out for fear of moose and seaside cliffs :)

Carl, Check out the Cape Breton courses through this link. I know Robert says he wasn't that impressed with the Lakes but I have talked with several who really enjoyed playing it.

The drive from Halifax airport to Cabot is not a difficult one. Call it 3 1/2 hours. Much of it is very scenic and quite enjoyable.

Halifax has direct flights from Boston, NYC/Newark, Chicago, and Philadelphia. In June direct flights from Detroit, Atlanta and Washington get added.

You can also fly from Halifax to Sydney, but there is little advantage, since you then have to drive 90 minutes or so to either course.

I'd like to try it again.  We drove it in the middle of the summer, from Cheticamp around to Ingonish, but until we got round the horn at the top we were completely fogged in and, so, had no views whatever to that point.  As I said, I'd like to try it again.

The five courses of Golf Cape Breton are all located on or near The Cabot Trail, which The Lonely Planet calls one of North America's best road trips and most scenic drives.
