Front Center Greenside Bunker~Are there many of these?
« on: April 15, 2012, 05:51:00 PM »
Colt Knost hit his approach to #72 at Harbour Town and PGATour.Com had this to say:

    1. 290yds to Left Fairway, 161yds to hole
    2. 138yds to Front Center Green Side Bunker, 25yds to hole

How does one build an FCGSB?

Rustic Canyon #13 is a great example.   Maybe someone can post a photo, I'm on my iPad and shutting down for the night.

Would the " Principal's Nose " front center on the first at Old Mac qualify?

So the interpretation of "greenside" is anywhere along the green, not at the side from direction of play alone? I was being facetious, but I now see that grasshopper has much to learn.

I think "front center greenside" definitely has to be on the centerline of play into the green.   The one at #13 Rustic Canyon, which Jim Johnson kindly submitted photos of, is such a bunker.  Much of the fun there comes from being on the wrong side of the green and using the complex slopes to play around the back of the bunker.

Ronald-
I knew you were being facetious, but what would you call it otherwise?  If you drop Greenside, it would be a "Front Center Bunker," but that wouldn't tell you if the bunker was sitting right next to the green or not.

There is a pretty cool one at the Warren Course at Notre Dame (a C.&C. design).  It is on the 5th hole, a shortish par 5.  It seems that these bunkers are really intimidating.  I've seen so many good players find this bunker, although it is quite small.

Third hole at Point O Woods has a pretty good size bunker right smack in front of the green as well.  Quite a bit larger from side to side than the bunkers at Rustic Canyon and the Warren Course.

Do you mean something like this, at CC of Charleston?

If this is what you mean there's a good example of one at Essex County CC in NJ.

Ron's point, I believe, was simply that the name "Front Center Greenside Bunker" was weird because these bunkers aren't on the left or right "side" of the green.

This one at 15 at Lakota Canyon is pretty wicked.  Although FCGB is only one name I can think for it!!   ;D
