No, I think your compatriot is favourite.  He has led from the front before and has the game to win a Major.  Anyone within 5 of the lead is in with a chance and Padraig, Westwood, Kuchar and Mickelson must all be contenders if Oosthuizen slips up.  I can't imagine anyone else who could triple bogey as Mickelson just did and still be a contender.

Indeed, no offence to Mac and our American friends but Id live to know where the double eagle expression came from. After all surely a DOUBLE eagle would be 4 under???  

As for the tournament, as others have said, Louis has shown before he isn't afraid to win!

James...no offense taken.  I originally wanted to title the thread "Albatross" but I wasn't sure I knew how to spell it.  So I went with double eagle.

Oosthuizen seems to be a classy guy, and he's got a great swing. At 29 years old, I would not at all be surprised to see him win another major or two. I thought he made both of those putts in the playoff.

Agreed 100%.  Bubba won that tournament.  Oosthuizen didn't lose it.  He played really well all the way through.

Louie has a real good chance in the US Open!    Reall good simple and beautiful action .    Swing reminds me a little of Woosnam with the power it produces from a small package , just tighter.

The albatross is a desired outcome but not actually played for. No body stands up and visualizes how to hit a shot and score an albatross. An amazing amount of luck has to occur for tthis to happen signified by the fact that it is only the second time at The Masters that this has occurred.
On the other hand Bubba must imagine a shot that HAD to come off to a large degree or his goose, (no birdie, eagle or albatross) was cooked....  He did this in spades, took a huge chance and depended on his innate ability to come up with the goods. He put everything on the line and came up trumps. Bubba's shot, for me, was the shot of the tournament and I think will historically rank right up there with the two albatrosses by Gene and Louis.

A fine shot indeed but circumstances favored him greatly. He can hook it with the best of them. There was room for the shot. Pine straw instead of rough. I bet he has hit that shot hundreds of times, just never under those circumstances.

The Albatross was a fine golf shot that landed in the right place and then rolled 60 or 70 feet into the hole. It was beautifully struck, but unlike Sarazen's deuce in 1935, there wasn't a creek to clear or any significant danger in missing left or right. Hell of a shot, but fate was the primary factor.

Bubba's escape from the trees took skill, imagination, courage and precise execution -- and it came during the playoff, rather than the second hole. I would guess most of the players in the field could have hit Oostie's shot; maybe two or three could have hit Bubba's shot.

I was as amazed as anyone by the albatross. I thought it won the tournament. Then a better shot was hit that actually did win the tournament.

The name double-eagle really should be retired as it is totally incorrect.  It is a sesqui-eagle, if you want to use an eagle in the name or an albatross.

I can't agree that Bubba's shot thru the chute with a short iron that led to a par was BETTER than a 260 yard long iron that found the hole for three better than par. No way. I would say that Bubba's shot was poetic in a way because Louie caught the break, had an open look and failed to get it close. Bubba, ever the shot manufacturer HAD to manufacture something that few could do under any circumstances, much less to win the Masters. So, it wasn't a better shot, but it proved to be a bigger and more creative shot. Louie's shot will have more legs as time goes by even though he didn't win.
