Gil Hanse at Ridgewood

Great article in Links Magazine about Gil's plans for 4 West at Ridgewood. It is hard to describe this hole if you have never played it, but it is great par five that requires a good, long tee shot so that you have a chance to carry the "bumps," a series of rough covered mounds that are brutal if you fail to make it over. (Just a short iron or wedge left if you do.) Many players have to hit their second shot short of the mounds. The 5th hole returns alongside 4, but there is now heavy rough and a group of trees that separate the holes. Gil plans to take out the trees and make it all fairway. To me, this is a radical idea, but a great one! Tilly always wanted to give players a way arond the mounds, and Gil plans to restore that option.
