If the par 5's are critical in terms of going under par
« on: April 04, 2012, 10:26:48 PM »
How will the scores compare between the front and back nine par 5's ?

Which will yield the most under par scores ?

Which will yield the most over par scores ?

Overall, which will yield the lowest overall total ?

Depends on the course...

If we are in fact talking about Augusta, the scoring averages for the 5's are
#2 = 4.80
#8 = 4.84
#13= 4.80
#15= 4.79

While similar, I'd imagine the backside has a greater variance in scores on its 5's thanks to the water.

Pat,
That's a toss up. The statistics of all 4 holes, over time.

#    AVG     RANK           LOW                     High
2 -   4.80       16           4.6194 (1990)       4.9964 (1957

8 -   4.84       15           4.6352 (1974)       4.9906 (1956)

13-  4.80       17           4.5574 (1974)       5.0420 (1976)

15-  4.79       18           4.5053 (1991)       5.0974 (1998)

Jim,
That's an amazing stat for #13 in 1976 because that's the year ray Floyd tied Jack's scoring record and dismantled the par 5's with his 5 wood

History is nice, but the weather forecast calls for wet conditions on the 1st two rounds.

Will that help or hurt scoring on the par 5's ?

Before they added the new tee a couple years ago on 15, I would've said help. However now the only hole I think it helps is #13. #s 2, 8, and 15 are all long enough that the gained accuracy in the second shot is probably negated by having so much more club in to those holes.

I'd imagine it will help the 3s and 4s overall though.
