And where the wind blows...
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:16:55 PM »
As our dear friends Pat Mucci, Tom Doak, and others always bring to our attention when discussing the worlds best courses that a student of architecture must understand the prevailing winds patterns... Whether its Seminole, Pacific Dunes, Maidstone, NGLA, or others, wind always play a big role in how a course presents itself on a day-in, day-out basis.

Here is a great link to illustrate the prevailing wind patterns over the US:

What would very cool is to overlay this map on a sand map to see where the sandy soil is in the most windy places...

So #13 Pacific Dunes is downwind.   ;D

Is that today's prevailing wind, or THE prevailing wind?  I'm thinking it's today, down here on the Gulf coast we get a lot of more southerly winds.

This map is for today only, correct? Is there a mechanism that allows one to check other dates throughout previous years?

It is interesting, though, to see which places are 15X or 30X windier than western New York.

I love this quote from the site:

"If the map is missing or seems slow, we recommend the latest Chrome browser. "

It's interesting that any legit site would push anyone toward a specific browser. I thought that was a Web 1.0 phenomenon.
