A new Championship Course under 7000 yds?
« on: March 10, 2013, 12:52:43 PM »
with all the air in the game form the the professionals on tour it is refreshing to see Old Macdonald hold up very nicely to par with all these young guns

http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/stats/?tournament_id=3809

interesting to see #4 to be scored as a par 5 into the prevailing wiinter wind

#11 Road and 12 Redan are tough regardless of the wind direction as is 16 Alps

no worries about spinning your ball back off the greens at Bandon

This is the Bandon Classic, hosted by Gonzaga. Coloado wom at -2, the only team under par. #2 UCLA and #4 Washington were in the field. Individual winner  Troix Tonkham of FesnoState was at -6

Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga

par held up well given that the course is under 7000 yds.

William:

What was the weather like?

And how tough was the set-up?  You can make Old Mac really hard if you hide more of the hole locations, a la St. Andrews.

I was surprised:

a)  to see the 2nd hole played so tough for them, and
b)  to see the 4th hole listed as a par five.  Assume that was because of expected winter winds.

Wait a minute, I thought #4 was a par 6 into the wind like two years ago in March!

the conditions were moderate temps in the 50's with gusty winds out of the north all 3 days at 10-15 mph

so, it is very interesting that the set-up was #4 as a par 5 as the winds leading up to the tournament were out of the south

yes the hole locations were challenging but the main thing is that it is not really an air game at Bandon/Old Macdonald, so tucking hole locations is not really that much of a deal as you cannot fire at the flag anyway and the greens are huge!

hole #2 had some back and far left hole locations that made that hole particularly difficult
