I use google Picasa.  There's a link that allows you to embed on message boards easily, and PC app.

Photobucket. Easy to use, and reliable, and free!

I use Dropbox, you put the pictures in the Public directory (you can make subdirectoiries if you want), and there it allows you to Copy the URL to put in the [IMG] brackets

The nice thing about Photobucket is...its specifically made for uploading photos and using them on websites and the like.

Whereas Dropbox isn't specialized to do that, even though hosting photos is one of its functions.

Its like buying a cup of coffee from a coffee shop, vs buying a cup from your local grocery store.l

Thanks guys, Photobucket it is, have joined up.

...NOW, can anyone provide me with a tool that will take a whole bunch of course photos in a folder on my PC, and auto compress them to 300k, and 800 pixels wide? ...and name each one ;)

Photobucket takes care of resizing pictures when you upload them. There are quite a few size options.  If you wanted to resize them first, there is a free program called Irfanview that makes it quite easy.

The naming is a bit tougher, especially if you want it to recognize the course and hole number.  That would be great, wouldn't it?

Yes.  Go to your local Apple Store, buy a computer, and use iPhoto.   ;D

John, thanks as usual, quality info.

Joe, always a classic line, yes I know I need a Mac. Will/does new iPad come with iPhoto?

I have been looking at a Mac laptop for a few months, can't commit, as my iPad 2 is attached to me waste!
So, do I need a MacBook or an Air, or should I wait, keep my iPad and get a desktop Mac later this year?

I gave up on Photobucket when they subjected my photos to a forced resizing. Not enamored with iPhoto. Signed up for SmugMug -- it does all the things you're asking for and more.

You get what you pay for.

I don't know yet, but I'd be surprised if the new iPad came with iPhoto, or the full blown desktop version of iPhoto.

If you have an Apple Store near you, I'd take an afternoon or two and give an Air, or MacBook, or iMac a real test run to see how you like it.

Apple has released iPhoto ($4.99) for the iPad. It seems to be getting favorable reviews.

Picassa user here.

Joe
I'm curious about i-photo naming files for you.
How does that work?

If you don't mind the authorities freezing your files you could try

I take say a collection of photos from a course and import them into iPhoto.  Then I put them into a folder with that course name.  iPhoto is so nice to crop and straighten and touch up photos.  No need to use a behemoth program like Photoshop for this sort of task.  Once I have the photos to my liking, I export them to a folder on my web server.  I can export to many file formats, indicate the quality of say the jpg (I use 'high' or 'medium'; yes, PC users are going to complain b/c they want more power at this step by restricting to a specific file size max; me, that isn't an issue at all), use custom file dimensions like 800 pixels width (so you don't get the blue slider bar), then name them sequentially with a prefix:

Oh, if you like the photo albums I link to, they are built using Galerie, a free program that interfaces to iPhoto beautifully.  Unfortunately Galerie is a Mac only program.

Thank you Joe

I do use photoshop scripting to edit multiple files
I use Picassa to label/caption my images so when creating slideshows with porta it extracts the caption

I like your file renaming process
Thank you
