Anyone played there since it was renovated?  What's the verdict?

How long ago did the renovation at Lakeside take place?

I too would like to hear about a renovation.  There hasn't been any talk, if in fact it has happened.

I thought the club was still in their debate about what grass should be in the fairways.  That debate began in 1979.

It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

This past summer they put in a new irrigation system, did some minor shaping on some fairways to improve drainage, did some work on some tees, removed some trees, re-grassed the entire course (except the greens), and some other things here and there...not a full scale renovation.  Greens weren't touched, and bunkers were mostly left alone.  The work that was done turned out really nice, and the course is in fantastic condition.  A very cool place.

Are we talking Lakeside in LA with the worlds smallest greens?

I believe the esteemed Mr. Todd Eckenrode was the architect who worked with Lakeside most recently.  If so, they were in good hands.

I swear you'll walk off tht course thinking you have the greatest short game in the world. If you can get the ball on the green, every putt feels makeable.

And to keep it LA related, Jon, your avatar reminds me of my days working at the nine hole Altadena Golf Course, where Curtis "Booger" Armstrong was a not infrequent player (though I realize that's his Better Off Dead character).

Haven't been there in a few years but this is a clippers paradise .The original layout looks neat but that excuse of a river did hurt it.

I have played there any number of times and always loved it.  Glad to hear a nice report on the "minor renovation".  Look forward to getting out there this summer.
