Flew over Augusta National today

Well, it was a nice day, I went flying with my Father as if I was 15 years old again.  I expected to just fly around the pattern, but my Dad said, "Let's go check out the new Clubhouse at the National".  Low and behold, there is a new building that they are building on the Southwest corner of the property (by the 5th green).  My Dad said that it is a "public" clubhouse to be used during the tournament.  You pay to have access.  $6,000/ per person for the week.  I am sure they will fill it up.

On the whole, the course looks fantastic!!!  Most of the grandstands are up, and there was a good amount of foursomes on the course today.  Lucky devils!

That was during highschool!   :)

It was good to see the course again from the air.  My dad and I talked about approach strategies to the 5th.

I am not sure it is a "Public" clubhouse at all. It is about 90,000 sq.ft with lots of appurtenances that include a putting green similar to that of the course. Members bought 16 tickets for $96,000.00, so it does work out to $6,000.00 a week per person. There is no accommodation provided in the building for this this ticket.

It is my understanding that a new "Corporate Hospitality" facility has been constructed in time for the 2012 Masters. I am not sure of the cost but I am sure it is above my pay grade.....

I am now thoroughly confused.  Are you saying that a total of 16 tickets were sold for this 90k sq. ft. building?

Also, when I say "public", I mean that you can buy your way in (i.e. you do not have to be issued Clubhouse badges from the ANGC - which cannot be "bought").

Over the past few years I have been sensing some changes at the way things are done at the National. It seems like the current leadership is wanting a bigger return off of the tournament. I think it irks them that the market price for a badge is $2000.00/day for a ticket that they sell for $62.50/day. They don't want to raise the price of the tickets, but they want to get in on the action somehow. This was the first I had heard of the new semi-private clubhouse, but it is consistent with what the direction I have seen the Masters taking.

Interestingly, this new clubhouse is a stones throw from a similar operation in a private home. I have suspected that the National is really behind that one, even though it is individually owned
