Trump Doral-Hanse's Preliminary Routing

From what I can remember (haven't played it in years) the biggest changes, besides length, seem to be 15 and 16
and the green complex at 10.

The biggest change and possibly the best improvement will be re grassing the golf course to a new form of bermuda.

I would love to see them get rid of the aircraft landing tees which is so 1960's style architecture.  Also they could lower many of the tees, with improvement in drainage do they really need to be 6 feet high?

Thankfully, the new #15 green isn't a complete island as previously reported.

I have to admit, with 6 or 7 new Hanse holes and 18 new greens, this course just might tempt me to get over my Trumpitis....

With Trump's hiring of Hanse for this project, where do we think Donald played that turned him onto Hanse?

I feel like hiring one of the hot GCA-approved guys is a departure from the architects that have worked with Trump before.

Could this be a benchmark of Trump golf architecture enlightenment?  You would have thought this would have happened with the Dye layout at Ocean Trails/Trump LA...but perhaps Dye was already away from the project when Trump swooped in.

1 needed that
2 is good
16 looks good-used the opposite lake i suggested, but his is much better
10 longer but it was pretty good before against the lake
11 is better, but kept similar theme
15 yeah ok was pretty benign before- it is Florida
17 looks better
rest not real different
Should be a very nice improvement-I like it.
Those of you who thought it was pricey before, I'm guessing you ain't seen nothing yet if he does succeed in making it an attractive resort/hotel

Is that a creek in front of #1?

#7 definitely a different hole.

#10 is a curious change, moving the green away from the lake.

#15 and #16 are obviously an attempt to infuse more drama into the back nine... I guess that's a good thing. I always thought the stretch of 14-17 was rather mundane before.

I like that 3, 4, 8, 12, 13, and 18 all basically unchanged.

I suppose some will opine that there's too much water here.... maybe there is, but I always thought for a course that called itself "Blue Monster", there really wasn't that much water in play. Obviously there will be more after this.

agreed "The Blue Monster" has a bit more water now.
looks quite  good to me now,and I'm not really a fan of a lot of water, but I always enjoyed the Blue
good catch-7 is different now

Essentially, a caddie who doesn't carry your clubs.  The players, typically, carry their clubs in a (motor) cart. One forecaddie is assigned to the foresome and performs the other typical caddie support.

I played there in July 1998.  Cost $50, cart included, but no forecaddy.

I'm confused as to how Hanse differentiates between a restoration and a renovation....

Off the top of my head, I would think a restoration would be restoring original design features and perhaps routing... and renovation would incorporate new features, holes and routing. Does everything on his site fall into these neat categories?

Just looking at how close some of those extended greens look to existing ponds, I wonder if Gil will be able to really push the greens back that far and get the 7600 yards.  Many of them leave no room for the fill slopes to extend out to where they probably need to be, at least IMHO.

Not really familar enough to comment otherwise, having only watched on TV, but opted for other places to play the few times I have played Florida golf.

Thanks Howard,

he cleans the clubs, tends the flags, advises on clubs, etc. Wow, new concept for me. Why the hell would you hire a caddy and carry your own :o Bizarre
