Interesting bit of history about the hole. Roberts disliked it from the get-go and wanted to change it early on. MacK, just before his death, strongly defended the 3rd. He objected to any change to it in a letter to Jones, as I recall. None were made.

Sand Hills #14 is the best short par-5 I've seen. I don't know if a perfect golf hole is really possible, but this one is darned close.

This is true. Roberts wanted to place a cross bunker in front of the green, but Mac and Jones were strongly against it, stating that the bunker would ruin all the hard work and time they had placed into creating the slopes and movement presented in the hole.

Would have been interested to see your take on the hole before it was altered, when there was no room left...Honestly I think it went from a not so good hole to a great one when they changed it.

Depending on the day (weather) some are harder or easier to handle than usually.

I would go for one that most people won't know and that is the 16th at Fixby, Huddersfield. I cannot put a finger on exactly why but it always struck me as a hole that was just right. Dean Stokes might beable to add something to this as he was a member there for many years.
