Your Favorite Pin Positions at Bandon
« on: February 28, 2012, 09:27:46 PM »
Consider this another in the off-season wish-I-was-on-the-course theme of threads.  Post your favorite pin positions from the four courses at Bandon.

I'll start with the back bowl on the 8th at PD and the top shelf on the 15th at BT.

OM 2 - Front Right by Devil's ###
OM 5 - Any pin on massive Short hole

PD 8 - Back Right

BD 11 Front Left (falls off into swale)

I think BT and OM have the most interesting pin locations given the more dramatic nature of those complexes.

Bandon Trails - #15 back right
Bandon Dunes - #13 back left next to fall off
Old Macdonald - #6 front center/right

And the best pin position at Bandon IMHO:

Pacific Dunes - #16 back left where you can use the runway strip of fairway behind the green

Sven,

I like those two!  Telling your player to hit his 4-iron into a stiff breeze 20 yards right of the green on #8 is one of the most fun shots to recommend to a first-timer and certainly to play!  Would add the back right pin on the 4th - chasing a ball back there off the slope left is an unbelievable feeling - and the same position on 5.  On the 7th, a front pin is tuffff but isn't every position on that wonderful green.  A hard left pin on 11 is fun and a back left on 13 is tough to get a ball all the way back there.  Finally, back right on 18.

Also love the tiny top right shelf on 15 at Trails!  Great greensite and wonderful green.  I would also mention the front pin on 5 and back left or right on 8.

At BD, I like the back right pin on 7.

Cheers

Jim Colton

Without looking a any other picks

Old Macdonald behind the road bunker on #12. Great sloping to allow the ground hook. Second place is in the hole in one slot left center on #5.
There were two made on the day I played, and my partner had a tap in birdie.

Bandon Trails #5 in front requires a precision short iron. Any mishit wedge brings double bogey into the equation.

Bandon Dunes #2 back right. If you hit the wrong quadrant its a touch double breaker over a ridge, but a long tee shot will feed back for a shot birdie.

Pacific Dunes. Every single one I have ever seen. But if forced to make a choice it would be front rightish on #14.

Not the best pin position out there but I quite liked the pin cut over the front left bunkers on OM's #5 - see below.

I like the hole in one position here. Back left middle the ball feeds from many angles. What an awesome green. The elevated tee makes this hole a pure joy.

Agreed! The elevated back tee offers a wonderful view of the hole...IMHO 100 times more enjoyable than the tee most everyone plays from some 20-30 feet lower.

Wonder why the set-up ended up like this from Tom Doak and Jim Urbina??

It's supposed to be a short hole.  The name on the scorecard is "Short".

From the back tee, it's 165 yards and the wind is unavoidable.

Maybe Jim has a different answer, but that's mine.  You are welcome to go play the back tee anytime you want, though; I don't believe in sticking to the green or white markers all the way around.  Actually, I don't think I have ever played the hole from up top, that I can recall.

Thanks Tom, played it up top in the preview, and now I tour my buddies up there to show them the better view of the awesome green as most everyone plays the green tees and misses the view,  :(
