Auburn University Course - Tell me about it
« on: February 20, 2012, 10:10:32 PM »
Heading down to Georgia in a couple of months and plan on spending one day in the Auburn, AL area.  RTJ Trail has the Grand National courses there that get quite a bit more pub than Auburn University's course but looking to learn more.  Would enjoy hearing some opinions on the Auburn course and a comparison of it to the RTJ courses or comparing it to anything else that would seem appropriate.  I don't know anything about the designer (Bill Bergin) and can't find a ton of info on the course.  Thanks.

I've not played it but used to work with a guy who played on their team and said the course kind of sucked.

Bill,
I've played the Auburn course a couple of times, and I'd really recommend it.  It has stayed under the radar in AL because of the size and scope of the Trail, but it is well worth a play if you can get on.  Much more variety than most of the RTJ courses; just generally a more interesting golf course.

Bill Bergin has a number of courses in the SE, both original work like Auburn and now some renovation work.  His renovation/restoration of the Chattanooga CC (Ross) has been talked about here and is very highly thought of; I think there are some pictures as well somewhere on GCA.com.  Another GREAT renovation of his that I've played is Pinetree here in Atlanta.  He also recently did some work on Mirimichi, Justin Timberlake's course.

Bergin's website also has some pictures.
