Kings Putter 2012 Update
« on: February 18, 2012, 02:38:07 PM »

Some of you will have seen Sandy Smith's post regarding Dick Zokol ending his affiliation with Sagebrush.

Having been a member there for the last three years, I have come to appreciate Dick, his contributions to the game generally, but especially his passion for Sagebrush and the "firm and fast game" of which Sagebrush is a great example. We will all miss him.

As for KP at Sagebrush in June, we are still on big time. The owners are carrying on with construction of the new members cottages and the Lodge, although they will not be ready in time for us in June. The massive Bugaboos putting green will also be built this year. Arrangements for KP are still the same as far as cost, dinner at the Hideout etc. Everything is positive at Sagebrush right now save for Dick's departure. I have spoken to him a few times in the last couple of days and it is clear that he too will miss the place but he is moving on to new adventures. Hopefully we may still be able to meet up with him on the Vancouver leg of KP.

I have booked the entire Quilchena Hotel for the nights of June 8 and 9 and have most of the hotel for the evening of the 10th of June. See www.quilchena.com  There will have to be some sharing of rooms and I will be emailing all of those coming regarding arrangements. T

I ran out of time on the post above. We have about 30 people coming and I will be in touch with all of you again shortly by IM or email. What we will be doing is arranging rooms and then securing the room by the individual GCAers providing credit card info directly to the hotel Currently they have my card number and by May, we will need to have some final numbers on the hotel. Quilchena Hotel is about 600 yards from the entrance to Sagebrush. It also has a dining room and a wine cellar where we can have a private dinner on the night we are not at the Hideout. There is still some room for those who are interested in the great course and an opportunity to meet GCAers. Currently we are scheduled to drive from Sagebrush on the morning of June 11 to Vancouver and Marine Drive GCC. Marine is an A.V. Macan course which received some modifications under the direction of Jim Urbina a few years ago.

Games for June 12 and 13 can be arranged for Victoria but there are limited tee times so let me know if you are interested and we will see how many we can accommodate. Dale Jackson of Royal Colwood is assisting in Victoria. Others have asked about a round at Tobiano on June 8, ie. Friday, and we can accommodate that as well as it is a public course. Tobiano is about a 50 minute drive from Sagebrush.

Thanks. Sagebrush is as much fun to play as any course you will ever find! I say that with confidence and that is reflecting the comments of several GCAers who have had the pleasure of being there.

Hi Bob,

I don't mean to go a bit OT, but I wondered if you would mind explaining a little more about this:
The massive Bugaboos putting green will also be built this year.

Thanks,I hope the KP is a great one.

Bob,

I am late to the party but if there is any cancellations, I'd love to get in!

If you would like I can inquire about getting some players onto Victoria

Cheers

Jordan,

We do have room and welcome you. Regarding the post KP games on Vancouver Island, Will MacEwan and Dale Jackson are working on it and we will be in touch.

I will be in touch.

If any others are interested, please post on this thread or send an IM or email to me. We so have some room. Currently at just over 30 signed up. As usual, we often have some drop out and others sign on at the last minute. Sagebrush will be opening for the season in about a month and I will be up there to check progress.

Bob,

Is this to say signups are open to friends of GCA'ers?  Or just still open to GCA'ers who have not otherwise signed up?

Thanks,

Kalen,

I suspect we will have room for a few friends. I am currently checking to  confirm the maximum capacity of the Hideout for dinner which is one of the factors. I will post once I hear back from the boys up there and will send out an email to all those who have confirmed they are coming.

Leary, we are apolitical up here north of the border, speak to and listen to both sides, but only when it comes to golf course architecture.

Okay, about a week ago I received my 2012 membership material from Sagebrush and all is in place for June 9-10 in the Nicola Valley.

The cottages are under construction as is the Lodge but they will not be ready in time for our arrival in June. As mentioned before, I have reserved the entire Quilchena Hotel which is about a kilometer, ie. about half a mile, from the gates to Sagebrush. I am in the process of sending out emails to all who have confirmed their attendance, some of whom have not sent deposits. The deposit was originally set at $262.50 US when our dollar was at about $1.05 US but they are now closer to par, with the Canadian dollar slightly higher. If those who have not paid can send me a cheque for $250 US you will be confirmed. Likewise any of you north of the border who still owe a deposit.I can be contacted through IM and will give you an address as to where to send the money.

Just so it is clear, my membership includes a pre-payment of $5000 for this year to include green fees for guests. The rate is $125 per day with unlimited rounds during the day. On top of that is the Harmonized Sales Tax at 12% which I will hit you up for when you arrive. That amounts to roughly $15 per day which will be fine. More on a second post.

Carrying on, dinner at the Hideout on Saturday will be $50 plus 12% HST, ie. $56 plus what ever you drink. That will be paid by you by credit card or cash that evening. I am also hoping to firm up dinner on Sunday at the Hideout, failing which I have a hold on the dining room at the Quilchena Hotel.

I have reserved the rooms at the Quilchena on my credit card and over the next few days will be sorting out roommates where desirable and room allocations. The Quichena is over 110 years old, is full of antiques and very cool. If there is someone you want to share a room with please let me know asap. There is also the Ranchhouse out the back which holds 5, but with one shower. If I do not hear from you, I will be in touch with you. There are also single rooms available so if you want a single room, please let me know.

One we have room allocations, I am going to email or IM you and you can then give your credit card number to the hotel to take me off the hook for your room.

The lovely Will MacEwan is arranging the competition and will be in touch with you. I believe captains have been chosen.

Not sure why but when I reach a certain number of words the posting just stops.

Marine Drive is booked for Monday June 11 but I may still be able to change that to Shaughnessy. There has been a change of pros at Shaughnessy and that has delayed matters but I have Dick Zokol working on trying to get us in there. It is probably one of the very best of the Macan courses and hosted the Canadian Open last year. That is to be confirmed within a week.

Thanks for your patience. I will be in touch with all of you who have confirmed by email. I appreciate your patience as my new career has taken up more time than had been experienced. Thanks.

Bob,

Thanks for the update.  I'll be looking to stay at Quinchila on Saturday night after 36 at Sagebursh.

I won't be able to stick around for Dinner on Sunday or the Monday activities as I'll need to head back to Spokane after the Sunday morning round.

Thanks again for organizing this.

P.S.  If anyone else is interested, I'll be looking to play Tobianno Links on Friday at about 10 AM.  I may try to work in a 2nd round on Friday as well, but am not yet decided.

Captaining the defending South team we have Mr. Peter Lavallee.

Could everyone pm me their index and also advise as to whether they have any past connection to the North or South.

Will,

I'll post it here.  GHIN puts me at 13.8 and I'll certainly be playing for the North.  I was an Assistant to the Co-Captain last time around and I think its the last time the North managed a win, so I gotta stick with em. Besides, I'm a native of Nor-Cal so I couldn't imagine ever playing for the south!!   ;D

Pete amd others, I will post the list of current participants at the end of the day today.

I will also be up there this weekend to check conditioning and progress on the construction of the cottages and lodge. Terry Donald tells me they should be open towards the end of July. Too bad we will not be able to stay there but the old Quilchena will suffice well.
