16 under??? Lowest round ever? - OT
« on: May 18, 2012, 09:10:40 AM »
Rhein Gibson is aspiring tour player from Austrailia who now lives in Oklahoma. Recently he shot an amazing -16 round of 55.

Pretty amazing story. Has anyone ever heard about someone shooting a lower number, or even better... witnessed it?

Sure I've heard of it.  Read about it yesterday on GCA.com!  ;D

Yep, saw the thread about 5 minutes after I posted. Would have deleted this topic, but don't know how to or if it's possible for me to do.

"Has anyone ever heard about someone shooting a lower number,"

The lowest competitive round I've ever heard of is Homero Blancas---27-28=55 on a par 70 course. This fellow apparenty did it on a par 71.

There was a terrific story about 10 years or so describing Blancas' round.  The course was very short - about 5500 yards or so - and was routed through large industrial structures (possibly oil drums).  While the course was short, it apparently had out of bounds on both sides of most holes.

Here is a Sports Illustrated story on the event.  It is not the one I am thinking about because it does not have pictures.  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1074136/1/index.htm

Josh -- I see you held this cat to 1-under, 287. Good work!

A 55 is noteworthy.  The fact that Tom Paul is back is worth advertising.
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
