Tee Marker Game - what happened?
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:47:48 PM »
Did something controversial happen in the thread "The Tee Marker Game" while I was away?

It seems to be gone, when I did a search it comes up empty, so I thought maybe I had the name wrong but I went back to several of the email notifications I got over the last few months and even using the enclosed link leads to an error message saying the thread doesn't exist.

I am trying to figure out how something as innocent as asking questions about Tee Markers could have produced any controversy and ill will to spiral to the point where someone said something deserving of being deleted or locked somehow.

Someone please enlighten me what happened while I was not looking?

je ne sais pas.

Maybe my final picture of a painted coconut was over-the-line.  I apologize to anyone offended by it.

Might have been deleted due to inactivity.  For me, I am in Ohio and not playing any golf which means no fun tee markers.  Hopefully spring will come early.

The coconut was a bit edgy....

Alright so I will go ahead and kick this one back off.

The tee markers at this Peach State club are quite fitting...

That is one way to get men to play the red tees.

Machrihanish.

Machrihanish was not a grueling course, but any legitimate scratch golfer who went around in level fours would be extremely delighted. And yet I don't think a twenty-handicapper would ever struggle to break a hundred there.  Machrihanish was fun, yet challenging, a combination that is suprisingly rare.

One of my favorite courses and I love the named of the holes. To me, Machrihanish is just a wee bit up the road from heaven. I knew what it was right away and most of the time was spent looking up an appropriate quote."

I love the brick tee marker.  Tee markers hyper-manufactured specifically for a course can tend to be a little much for me.  The colored orbs are okay.  The little log pieces aren't bad either.  The farming equipment used at Tobacco Road is awesome.  I will make an exception in the case of PGA Tour events.  The little umbrellas used for the Travelers Championship (and many other markers the Tour sponsors come up with) are neat.

The Witch, one of the courses down here in Myrtle Beach, leads players on the front nine through a cypress swamp.  The tee markers are slightly painted cypress "knees."

I'll take a WAG just to keep this moving forward.  I am assuming it has some kind of mining or geological spin to it so I will say Old Works in Anaconda, MT.

I hope the photo shows up as this is my first post. I'm not sure if these are the same as the aforementioned coconut tees, but they're featured on a course in the South Pacific that I was fortunate enough to play on my honeymoon in 2009.

Sandpiper's (Goleta, CA) tee markers were drill bits I'm assuming from oil rigs. It's either an homage to the developer (Hunter) an oil guy, or Sandpiper's proximity to oil rigs. Perhaps both.
