I think it's a fun way to protect par in a pro tournament and a fun way to frustrate us mere slappers. It's unpredictable, frustrating and very
democratic ( small "d") method of making the game more interesting.

Terry,

Would you like to play day in and day out on the stuff at your home club?

Is there any course in the greater LA area that has managed to keep out the kikuyu?

How far does the "kikuyu belt" expand?

I believe that the south course at Torrey Pines has it.

If I was a member at a classic club trying to remain relevant to the pro game, I'd be happy to deal with it. Never bothered me the handful of times I played at the Riv.

Monterey peninsula has KK. It is kept out of several places. Not that hard, just have to be diligent.

Adam,

I've heard that the reason its not as prevelant in "Northern Cali" is because it doesn't do well in the "cold" winter months that they don't really get down south.  Hence its easier to control as it doesn't spread so fast year round.

However, down South, I've heard its next to impossible to control, so they don't even really try...but this may not be accurate.

Kalen, it's not impossible to control, but it is difficult and expensive.   The Valley Club of Montecito has a crew out every day looking for and eradicating kikuyu.   Members are discouraged from wearing golf shoes that they also use at kikuyu-laden LaCumbre across town.

Bill,

Sounds like we have one example, but not surprising given the resources a club like that more than likely has.

I'm curious how much work courses in Nor Cal have to do to keep kikuyu at bay.  I can think of only one in the bay area where it was prevalent and out of control...  at Alameda at the Chuck Corica complex....the South Course especially.
