Thanks for the aerial - though my point remains. I wouldnt have so much an issue if you were seeing what's depicted there from the tee but the fact is you dont - as the shot is blind. All you really see from the tee is the white rock - you cant really see the extent of the hazard line and I think it detracts from the hole

Kevin:

Do you feel the same way about the blind drives at Royal County Down?  Or at Lahinch?  The white rock marker is one of my favorite historical quirks in golf.  It has been said a thousand times before, a hole is only blind once. And for a hole like 8 at Pebble where many first timers have seen the hole on TV, played it in a video game or even read about it on this thread, what awaits the player over the crest of the hill is not always a mystery.

Many forget that a number of tee shots at NGLA are blind.

Many forget that a number of second shots at NGLA are blind.

Are those holes somehow diminished or inferior due to the element of blindness ?

Should # 8 at PBGC be deemed inferior due to the blind or semi-blind nature of the tee shot ?

Imagine instead of clearing a beautiful chasm over the Pacific, that it's a large marsh in Florida.  Same love?

No. Architect's should strive to use oceans rather than marshes. :)

Not at all as I dont recall a blind lateral hazard in the LZ at either of the courses which is my sticking point. I suggest you and Pat read my earlier posts - I dont have a specific problem with blind drives - I do though have a problem with those where the LZ leads into a lateral or water hazard.

Another Q: how does one determine where a ball that may have gone into the ocean from the tee crossed the hazard line on # 8  if they cant see it from the tee ?
