From Golf Course Architecture:

British golf architects Adrian Stiff and Ben Stephens have formed a new partnership, and, as SAS Golf Design, are embarking on their first project, in Wiltshire in England’s south-west.

Congrats to fellow GCAers Adrian and Ben on the new partnership!

What's great about this arrangement is that Ben can tell people it's "Stephens & Stiff" and Adrian can call the company "Stiff and Stephens" and regardless, the company name isn't affected!

Thank you for putting this up on GCA I appreciate this. Adrian and I will put up our designs for Westbury GC on GCA later on this year.

Is this the first golf course design partnership formed due to Golf Club Atlas?

Thanks for your kind words. Its quite an interesting project in that I am not sure if its a re-do or a brand new one course, we are not keeping anything of the existing save the routing of the first hole. Whilst its against the grain to be building new courses in this economy, it is funded by landfill so the cost will be less than zero! It could be a way for other UK architects to earn a crust and other UK golf clubs to improve their courses without it costing. Ben and I will keep you posted.

Sorry to be a pedant but the strike partner with whom Shearer formed the SAS was Chris Sutton, not Teddy Sheringham.

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I wish you both the best of luck for the new venture, perhaps with the motto ‘Who cares, Wins’ might just be the way to go.

Guys, stamp your own identity on your partnership and of course not forgetting your designs. Utilise the coming together of two minds as an opportunity to improve GCA in these islands. However to enable you to serve the game may I respectfully suggest that you visit Askernish ASAP and The Bridge of Allan course. Don’t put it off, you need to see them now, and if possible together. Not to copy their theme but to understand what golf was like when it was played in the days of our first Golden Age.

Who Cares, Wins, based upon solid design while working win Nature and the local environment.

Melvyn - Herbert Fowler I would say, almost nothing remains of Tom Dunnes 1890s stuff. Fowlers course is there except 1.2, 17 and 18 have changed but 3-16 is intact. The West course hardly anything of the early stuff remains. Frank Pennink did the re-do.

Mark, pretty certain it was used for the England strike duo also, but you are probably right that it was the Blackburn pairing first. Something I'd probably blanked out thanks to their 1995 Premier League title.

Pennard needed to be more 'sexy'! It still needs to with the amazing catchment area that has not been utilised to its potential! ;D
