Morongo GC @ Tukwet Canyon,Beaumont, CA- 2 new courses?
« on: February 07, 2012, 07:38:46 PM »
Did we miss these 2 new courses by Schmidt/Curley that opened  last year? Unless the search function here isn't working, I couldn't find anything.

Has anyone played there? They're about an hour east of Los Angeles.

Courses have been there for a number of years.  I'll guess around 10 years at least.   Used to be called PGA of Southern California Golf Club, or something like that.

Basically across the freeway from Oak Valley, also by Curley and Schmidt.

I've played one of the two.  If you are going to drive out there, just play 36 at Oak Valley, which is very good.

The nearby casino bought the former East Valley GC last year, hence the name change.

Not sure what the fees were the last few years, but back when it opened, probably around 1998 or 1999, you could play both courses in a day for $75.  I think the first 18 was $50, and the second was $25.  Of course, that was before I had a decent job and I thought $40 for Oak Valley was a luxury.  I seem to remember them being pretty decent courses, though I've played Oak Valley many more times and always enjoyed it, back when there were almost no houses bordering the property and the clubhouse was a temporary building.

I've played them both as well, but agree with the general consensus that Oak Valley is (was?) better than each of them.   I haven't played Oak Valley in a number of years and there may be housing encroaching now, I don't know.    But they aren't terrible, just very mixed and inconsistent.   Also, if I recall correctly Oak Valley is a much easier walk.
