King's Putter2012 Update
« on: February 05, 2012, 10:51:08 PM »
Please check back to this thread for details  http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,48094.0.html

Summarizing, we have Sagebrush for two full days on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10, then Marine Drive in Vancouver on Monday June 11. When I started the other thread last spring, we were hopeful that the cottages and lodge would be complete by the time we were showing up in June, but it is now clear that they will not be available to us. As a precaution, I had booked the entire Quilchena Hotel, which is a very short distance from Sagebrush and is in site from several holes. The hotel is over 100 years old and is full of character and antiques. You can check it out here at www.quilchena.com  The hotel has a capacity of 50 people at most and we currently have 30 signed up. I will be emailing all of those who have commited shortly but this will confirm we have room for more GCA members.

Some of you have been there and know that the hotel is clean and comfortable and close to Sagebrush but it is also very old. Most rooms can accommodate two people and those have full bathrooms. Some are singles and there is the Ranch House out back of the hotel which can accommodate 5 people. So if you can share a room, please let me know and we will make some room assignments.
Please email me at rwjenkins47@gmail.com if you can share a room. I will get you rates which are very reasonable but even more reasonable if we are sharing when possible.

Dinner is set at the Hideout on Saturday June 9 and is mandatory and a great experience. Depending on numbers, we can arrange dinner for Friday night and Sunday at the Hideout or at the Wine Cellar in the Hotel.

Will MacEwan will be oranizing matches and also will be assisting generally in assigning people to the North and South teams.

Again, I apologize for the delay in getting in touch but all is go for June of this year at a great venue plus Marine Drive in Vancouver, an origninal  Macan with the added the changes from Jim Urbina completed last year.

Are you going to have details on a post event visit to Vancouver Island available here soon?

I would be in for dinner Friday and possibly Sunday night if enough people want to attend.

Bob,

Thanks for the update, much appreciated.

Do you have any info for those of us who will be getting in town Thursday night/Friday morning?  In the main thread, there was talk of possibly spending Friday, or part thereof,  at Tobiano.

As much as I hate to miss it, as I live in Spokane, I'll be missing out on Mondays round over in Vancouver.

Thanks,

Kalen

Kalen,

Tobiano would be the natural choice I think, or maybe Rivershore in Kamloops.

I don't know of anyone playing yet (not that I would), but this thread would be a good place to get it going.

I would second Tobiano as a good choice for a pre-event visit.  While I personally prefer Rivershore, it is perhaps 30 - 40 miles past Tobiano.

Per the initial thread:
DEPOSITS AND CURRENCY
We are open to GCAers and as in the past, those who have attended previous KPs will get priority. All of the prices above are in Canadian funds and our dollar is now above the US dollar and is about $105. In order to get some firm commitments, I am asking for a deposit of $250. To hold a spot, please send the deposit asap. About 6 weeks before the event, I will ask for the balance of the cost which will be green fees and food at the courses plus taxes. Realizing it will be difficult for those in the US to pay in Canadian dollars, I propose that if you pay in US funds, add 5% to the deposit. I will do my best to adjust due to currency fluctuations and will advise if there are changes. So for those paying in US funds, I need a deposit of $262.50 US. I will hold all deposits in trust and until I pay Sagebrush and Marine for the green fees and food. Any surplus (I doubt it) would go to buy a few prizes.

If you want to join us, please IM or email me and I will generate a list and report back.

Let me tell you (without any bias), two days of golf at Sagebrush broken up by dinner at the Hideout and a night at the Quilchena Hotel is an experience unlike any other.

Regrettably, I am OUT for this year's KP. A hat tip to you Bob for putting together what looks to be a terrific event.

Bob,
Sounds like a great event as always. I can't make it this year. Have a great time. I look forward to hearing more about the course. I suppose it'll be another month or so before the smack talk starts up amongst the competitors. :)

Kalen will be going down in the 3rd edition of the GRUDGE MATCH for the third straight time come KP!

Oh, was I supposed to wait another month?

I thought enough about this course, even after spraining my ankle on the first day, that I became an international (posse) member.
You are able to play 36 holes a day, albeit in a golf cart, have a delicious lunch, fly-fish, smoke cubans, leave the world behind.  What's wrong with the picture? I can't think of anything. If you can, make it to this King's Putter. Coat and tie at dinner is OPTIONAL.

With Marine Drive in greater Vancouver being very close to the airport I think that area is the best entry point if your're going to attend all venues.

Make sure your passport is in order.

...Coat and tie at dinner is optional. ...

However, cowboy boots are required.

I normally wear a coat and tie as well. Felt a bit awkward when I didn't.

You probably wear your hat indoors AND backwards. ;)

Think of it like having dinner at one of the finer English or Scottish clubs....Especially now that Mr. Jenkins is now a judge.

Nobody wears a Stetson backwards.

The scary thing is that the Right Hon. Robt Jenkins could convict me at any time.  Hard labor for making him putt a 30"er to halve a match at Old Macdonald.

Can't wait to tell him, "It's your honour, your honour!"   ;D
