The BEST Fifty quid in golf?
« on: February 02, 2012, 05:39:19 PM »
So I'm trawling around the web today at work - in a purely professional capacity - wondering what our nearest competitors are doing in terms of subs and I take a longing look at Edinburgh Leisure's site which of course includes the splendid Braids. EL now seem to have some deal with the local clubs to get memberships up.

My eyes alight on this wee gem:

http://www.edinburghthistle.co.uk/NewMembers.html

Oh, baby, baby. Hit me just one more time. For the price of a few pints in Rose Street, I can be a member of a Club at the Braids...!!!

Who's up for a MASS GCA Thistle membership!!!???

Kalen,

The hibernation patterns of the good burghers living in The Kingdom of Fife are such that minor mistakes can be made when awoken from slumbers at the work desk. Forgive them for they know not what they do.

Yours in contrition,
Colin

Best 50 quid in golf?

A day ticket at Brora.

On a quiet summer day, you'd get 72 holes in.

Scott,

Bang on lad! That was the FIRST thing that came into my mind. Too right on that call. I long for my next romp at Brora.

Cheers,

I'd find the extra £2 for a day at Silloth.

FBD - I was looking at Braids the other day.  I've never played there and feel this is probably a gap that should be filled.  Any interest in getting together there in the spring?
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

You may wish to know that Braid Hills in 1889 existence was due in part to Lady Cathcart of the Cluny Estates (Trustees) also the Lady responsible for Askernish and later a 9 Hole course at Collieston just a few miles south of Cruden Bay.

The original designer was to be Old Tom assisted by P M’Ewan both recommended by Hall Blyth, however the Council brought forward the design/build date when OTM was working in Northern Ireland. As the council would not wait M’Ewan was placed in charge with Ferguson to assist.

I currently play through the Edinburgh leisure scheme but have not signed up to a club yet.  If there was a group of GCA'ers going to one club it would interest me.
