It will be very intresting to see how the number of entries differs from years it is on the "mainland'
Most of the entrants are young adults traditionally without much financial clout and the added expense of a trip across the little pond, may well make enough to decide to give that particular year a miss...we will wait and see.
My guess, is that the number of entries will be down 20%...

Michael it is my experience that these young hotshots all have a 'benefactor' who would relish the chance to be part of their 'team' at the most important event of the year.  They will pick up the bill.
Let's make GCA grate again!

Probably so Tony...things have changed quite a lot since my days of playing the Amateur Circuit back home.
The amount of balloting etc..will be interesting to see, because I think that is on eof the things that the   R&A will use as a guidline for spectators of any potential Open in the future.

let's not forget the uptick that may ocur from the Irish lads
"Let's slow the damned greens down a bit, not take the character out of them." Tom Doak
"Take their focus off the grass and put it squarely on interesting golf." Don Mahaffey

I think the quality of the venue, and a full compliment of aging lions looking to play in that event, will see a full field having a go at qualifying! That would be a good British Am to watch a day or two and fashion a trip over around.

Cheers,

Cinque Ports 2013
Portrush 2014

Looks like it will be a good couple of years for former Open Championship courses and it would be wonderful to see one or both get another Open (Deal's third, Portrush's 2nd) in the coming decade.

Given the success that "local" lads McDowell, McIlroy and Clarke have had in recent years, my guess is they will have no problem filling the entry sheet by the time 2014 rolls around.
