Beau Desert

An architect friend (not on GCA) sent me a link to this two part article by Hal Phillips.  This is a place that deserves much more attention.  I'm grateful that Sean Arble & James Boon showed me around there last year.

The greens are a convoluted magic set.  Some think some of this resulted from post-mining subsidence of the subsurface.  Whatever the reason, they are really a lot of fun to play.

Tucky

Thanks for the links - interesting if not illuminating.

SWAG

I don't know of an average Fowler course.  More importantly, none of his courses I have seen are remotely like each other.  I can say that about no other archie I am aware of.  Fowler might not be the best archie, but he is my favourite.  When you are keen to get up to Beau give me a shout.

Like Sean, Fowler may be my favorite architect.  He, as well as anyone, uses the land to fit the course.  It is hard to believe how many good courses he designed.  He also designed some brilliantly mad courses like Bulls Bay in Wales.  Beau Desert is a wonderful place.  I have only played it once, years ago with Sean, but I remember most of the holes.  If I get back to England this year, Id put it on my short list to play.

John,

Thanks for the links to those articles. Its always good to see write ups on a course which I'm pretty familiar with but most people aren't.

As for Fowler, he wasn't too shabby really was he...  ::)

Brian,

Likewise on Sean's comment, let me know if you are heading this way.

Cheers,

James
