Embarrassed by this question but here goes...
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:40:51 PM »
Given that there will be a new course coming on line within the next 16 or so months using the marketing tag of:

"The only course in the world with ocean views from all 18 tees and all 18 greens"

Can anyone name another?

Believe Alan Shepard already played the Sea of Tranquility.

Trump L.A. could say that save for the 15th green. It is a below average course.

Not sure about that corner up there with 6, 7 and 8th tee, but maybe so.  Ninth green?

Replace ocean with water and you have Castle Stuart.

Well it might not be an ocean, but last time I looked it definitely was a see. However, there are holes that do not have a view of the ocean from tee, fairway or green. Reay fits the bill I believe as does Kilspindie.

I have heard a couple of courses market themselves on being able to see the ocean from every hole -- but I can't think of which ones right now.

Every tee and every green, really?  Is that even better, or is it worse?  I actually think it might be worse, as it implies a lack of variety.

Crail (Balcomie).

I'm struggling to think of a tee or green at Fishers Island from which you cannot see either the Sound or out to the Atlantic.

To say nothing of the routing and design comprimises one might make if he set out with that as a GOAL....

Sure seemed like The Challenge at Manele did, but I wasn't counting.

Definitely.  If that's what a client asked for, I would probably tell him it was a dumb goal.

[Oh, wait.  What course are we talking about here?  I might have already told somebody that.]

Not that I am a big fan of the course, but I suspect this might be true of Pinnacle Point?  It is built on steep land above the ocean so I think you could likely see the ocean from all the greens and tees...perhaps my memory is incorrect, I don't remember a number of the holes (which again goes to show my overall impression).

Would somebody actually go out of their way to play a course simply because of that claim?

That is an interesting thought. As Greg knows ocean views are fairly easy to come by in Cabos. I wonder how many rounds a year that line would grab if it an otherwise run of the mill course for the area.

Jerry,

I was looking for a course to play and found this one which advertised:

"This has been accomplished by incorporating some type of water hazard (lake, pond, or canal) on each hole. In addition, most of the pine trees and palm trees have been left in their natural locations near greens, fairways and tees, thus creating some interesting obstacles for all golfers. "

I presume this is to attract golfers.

Don't think Castle Stuart makes it. Chambers Bay comes close. the Castle Course and Kingsbarns make it.

I actually had not thought about it but I am just starting construction on one right now and I think you can see the ocean from all 18 holes.  But only because there are no trees and only two holes are actually on the beach.  http://www.montecristobeach.com/community_golf.php
I am on site all weekend and will try to see if that is a true statement.

Not sure about all the tees and greens, but I remember Half Moon Bay billing itself as having ocean views from all 18 holes.

I think that I would prefer several tees and greens cloistered by interesting topography.

Here are a few with "on every hole" claims...at least according to their marketing copywriters.

Kiawah -- TOC
"Unobstructed views of Kiawah’s beautiful Atlantic coastline from every hole."
http://www.kiawahresort.com/golf/the-ocean-course/

[Can you see the ocean from #1? Likely the farthest hole from the shore.]

Wailea:
3 courses. 54 holes. All ocean views.
"...Wailea Golf Club, whose championship Gold, Emerald and Blue courses boast breathtaking ocean views from every hole and dozens of prestigious awards."
http://www.waileagolf.com/

Los Verdes Golf Course
"With ocean views from every hole, the course offers both great golf and great scenery, and you will find it to be one of the best golf values anywhere."
http://www.terranea.com/california-golf-courses.php

Cabo Real
"...a high-quality course to look as though it had been entirely designed by the landscape itself, in which each hole provides an ocean view."
