Dick, You are being unfair to this guy, IF, you are basing everything you know about him from this interview. I highly doubt you are correct about his highness.   ;)  He may have been on a natural high, since he played so well and was giving a KT interview.
I believe you are mistaking his lack of sophistication, when asked an unexpected question, by a journalist who has made herself part of the story before, for, him being high on drugs. That's a huge leap. From her first clue where she was going with the question, his body language changed and his manner made him appear altered.
An articulate responder would've intellectually argued that Mary Jane is not a drug, and it's placement in the drug act, is hypocrisy personified.

But alas, we didn't see an articulate responder. We saw a product of what the lure of Pro golf can manifest. A jock who spends more time pounding balls than books.

If you look up slacker in the dictionary, I wouldn't be surprised if you find Every's picture.

That was just an awful interview, and it had nothing to do with Every.  How is Tilghman still employed by Golf Channel?

I did a little more research on the incident, and a few things stood out.  First, the charges were dismissed, but the PGA Tour punished him anyway.  Second, Every apologized pretty directly and sincerely right after the incident took place, so I'm not sure why he has to account for it three years later when he's leading a tournament.  Third, I was very impressed with Every's college story.  He received a scholarship to North Florida, but he decided instead to put it on the line and walk on to the Florida golf team.  Of course, he won several tournaments and was an All-American there.

And I think he's right: players on the Tour do much worse things than sit in a room where guys are smoking weed.

I love this guy!  I'll take him all day long over any dozen mechanized clowns who wear their tour bible study group on their sleeve like a Rolex endorsement.  Now I have a reason to actually watch this thing. The tour is starved for characters, and as soon as anyone acts the least bit politically incorrect we skewer 'em.  No wonder most tour events are more nap inducing than a fist full of Ambien.  Best quote: "It's just golf".  Nananananananananananana.........

I understand the criticism to Tilghman here but don't agree with it.  At the end of the day, she's a journalist.  Journalists are supposed to ask probing questions.  And if Every doesn't like it, or isn't comfortable with it, too bad.  He did it.  Now deal with the consequences.

I do agree Tilghman should be criticized though.  Not for asking about the suspension, but the inane questions about "Lost," and how he was adjusting to playing in Hawaii.  Really?  Adjusting to Hawaii?  Now those are bad questions.

Well gents, I'll take my lumps for starting an O.T. thread based on a strong revulsion I had seeing Every's state of mind and attitude in the whole Tilgman interview.  It caused me to fire off an O.T. withing minutes of the fact, and while Faldo made his also immediate response.   So, it wasn't a unique or isolated reaction to what we saw in the interview.  I don't think Tilgman is to be blamed for seeing and ferreting out what was pretty obvious.   I came to the same impression- that he was stoned, and if I were being paid to bring viewers 'the story' I would have used the same angle of questions and wording, that did in deed suggest a context.  The guy is leading the golf tournament, and knows it is part of the professional drill that he will be asked to do a post round interview.  As Alex Miceli observed, Every has been bringing up the old story, when no one was asking.  No, he didn't bring it up in the instant interview with KT, but we don't know the context of what KT saw or heard before the camera rolled.  But, she had the reporter's instinct.  I don't see that as predatory or unfair.  That is just me, I guess.

Daly was a so-called character and many were saying we need characters in the game, until the character turned tragic. It remains to be seen, IMHO, if Every is another character, lovable as Cheech and Chong in their space cadet humorous stupor, that is a play on the culture clash and issue of pot, or a slacker destined to shoot himself in the foot due to a lack of a pause button.  But, again in my impression, too much leaning on the Maui Wowi humor will only get you so far, and the other character issues will remain to be seen.

To summarize, I like KT, don't like what I've seen of Every, and couldn't care less about pot per se until it diminishes the integrity of the game and its professional performers.  i'm out... se rves me right to receive the crit for the O.T.  ::) :-\ ;D
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

The charge was dismissed!

The man had no idea he was going to be asked this question.

A good question would have been "Great round - what do you attribute your great play too?"

Did Kelly ask Tiger if Elin beat him with a 5 iron.

Cmon.....give the guy a break!

It was a nine iron ;D

She hit him with a nasty question,he's not famous, he did his time, apologised...
Did he really have to be asked that  when leading a tournament?

To keep it architecturally related, would he have been out of line to have responded with a question about Kelly's love of artificial turf?

+100 JNC,

and just because he doesn't appear to be comfortable in front of the cameras, doesn't mean he was stoned.  Hell George Bush is even worse in front of the camera and he got elected President.

The guy comes back, is leading a tour event, and there is Kelly to chop him right back down to size....what a bitch!!

I don't think KT has a long enough leash to come up with that line of questioning on her own.

Thank you Craig I really enjoyed that.

Put me down for another who believes the golf channel saw that they had a rabbit in their headlights and they had to take their opportunity. Maybe it was a bad interview but he was nuts to go on in that state.

Also  to say there are much worse things than what I did...

Where are his people when he needs them.  I give it 12 hours before we hear he reacted badly to hay fever pills.

So the booze on the tables at Rye (redundant?) is less likely to put a guy in the state that has been attributed to Every on camera?

When some guys come out of "the zone," they are often at a loss for appropriate words to describe their play.

The blindside hit by KT was sad...as a Monday-morning caddie, I would prefer "through the bag" or "hole by hole" to let's discuss the accusation.

I just watched it again in context on the golf channel.  He just looks like he was stunned and defensive when she blindsided him like that out of the blue after some softball questions about surfing.  Furthermore, Faldo's comments were a good 10-15 minutes after the fact, not immediately afterward.  I hope this gives him the motivation he needs to dust the field and let the talking heads try and spin that.

Well the season is not even two weeks old and this just keeps getting richer.
Now the talking heads are saying that the biggest disadvantage for Every is that he plays too quickly.
I'm watching tomorrow!!!
Must see TV after last weeks crawl.

Another uncomfortable interview (about an uncomfortable interview) in the press room.

TV Announcers GLORIFY slow play "he never hits a shot until ready", don't comment on poor ettiquette (multiple practice swing divots), and consider fast play a disadvantage :o ??? ::).
No kid should be allowed to watch PGA golf-certainly not with the sound on.
I hope he wins and makes a negative remark about the turtles in front of or playing with him---

Now Faldo et. al are backpeddling after the negative backlash (lurkers?) and saying that it was Every who brought the issue up in the press tent prior to the KT interview and it was therefore open season and thus she didn't blindside him.  Guess they forgot to check their demographics.  Middle aged baby boomers who grew up in the 60's and 70's and Gen X & Y'ers who could care less about pot...Time to get their heads out of the Rick Santorum revival tent and into the modern world...

New interview with ESPN's Michael Collins. Not sure if we've found the correct decorum for interviews yet, but whether Every lives a lifestyle becoming of a professional golfer or not, this incident was 3 years ago and I hope that he doesn't have to take ignorant questions about it anymore.

Those criticizing the question ignore the fact that Every himself brought the subject up in the media tent beforehand. I am no Tilghman fan but I thought the question was appropriate and the interview much better than normal.
