You'll have to wait. He's trying to untie his loafers to continue counting. As a desntist I'm pretty sure he can count to 32. ;)

Who cares about playing them?  I have  photo tours of 53 of them on my hard drive.

Last time I counted, I reached 70, although, with the various lists, and additions and subtractions, that could go up or down a few.  I tend to count a course that is on any list, not use just one list.  Yeah, it bulks up my numbers a bit.

Nice - you should get yourself one of those Golf Magazine boards with the gold pins!

What are the remaining 2?

Of the Golf Magazine list I'm 36...11 planned for 2011, mainly in the UK.

Just rereading that list: it looks like neither Bandon Trails nor Sebonack made the cut. Harsh...

I've played 100 of my Top 100 ;)

As far as a magazine top 100, what list would you use? and aren't thereabout 300 -400 courses on the various Top 100 lists.
Classic, Moden, pblic access, different magazines (saw a great on the other day "Top casino courses" ::) ::)

Of the World 100 lists Golf seems to be more GCA focused from what I can tell. Pick a year.

Jeff, how many true links courses have you played? I gotta think your close to all of them? Certainly in the British Isles...

i don't know, but I find new ones all the time I've missed.(even in areas I've been to many times)

"All of them" would be a daunting task
and I've never been to bandon, or Australia, or The Netherlands.
I'd guess close to 100-How many are there? 300?

Short of 300 - high 200s I think according to George Peper's book...using that as the benchmark...

that book has some questionable inclusions and noteable ommisions.
Ultimately, I like golf and have no problem playing a Nefyn or  a Southerndown or a Bulls bay (wales)whether they're considered links or not.

I honestly never look at lists except the Top 100 UK website has fabulous listings of couses by region within a country which results in literally hundreds of ideas as a startng point

edit:Brian you nailed it-GCA is a fantastic resource
kudos to the Sean Arbles of the world
and Mark Rowlinsons UK reviews are fantastic for hidden gems

Played?  Don't be preposterous...anyone can play the Top 100.

The telling question is:  How many of them count you as a member?

I'm not afraid to go first..23

I'm going by the Golf Mag lists and am up to 91 on the most recent U.S. top 100.  And if I get on Augusta this year
I'm taking Jim Franklin next year!

Using what I consider the best ranking out there, the GCA.com Unofficial Top 100, I have played a mere snip at 23ish.  I reckon its enough to know what the story is.  I hope to play the odd one here and there in between seeing the gems.

Ciao

Jim,
I'll show you the hole in the fence at Augusta (I had a regular summer night loop of four holes-13,14, 11 ,12 )....
if you'll take me to Hawaii. ;D
Once played nearly the entire back nine-didn't putt on 18 or tee off on 10
