Did he just say that? RE 18 at Plantation

I'm a newbie but I'm watching the Tournament of Champs on the Golf Channel right now and Johnny Miller just said, " I think Crenshaw designed this when he was in the driving slump when he couldn't hit it straight."  This is in regards to the 18th hole at Plantation.  Stricker was the first to tee off and then Webb Simpson hit it away.  Although Stricker is older and shorter, he hit the correct spot and went further.  Don't know if this is the Johnny vs Faldo stuff, but I wanted to vomit when I heard him say it.

a. can you clarify what Miller meant? Crenshaw never really could hit it straight...he was as wild a driver as there ever was.

b. what does "hit it away" mean, regarding Webb Simpson?

c. had Faldo said something to challenge Miller, previously?

RM, it was a typo regarding "hit away"  My point was that Webb is younger and longer and because Stricker hit the correct spot in the fairway, he ended up closer.  Not sure what Miller's point was regarding Crenshaw, other than to slam the design.  I think NBC and the Golf Channel are trying to get some controversy going with Miller and Faldo.

Don't you think it is just his attempt to say humorously that there is a lot of room out there?  I could see myself saying something like that.

I thought it was one of the funnier things I've heard Miller say.
I think Faldo is making him better, (and I've never been a Miller fan as an announcer)


Way better than watching the announcers continue to call super slow players "deliberate" (and glorify their never ready to hit routines
where they wait for the caddie to say some magic word ::) ::) ::) so they can FREAKING GET ON WITH IT)

Tommy,  don't disagree, but I think he has an issue with the width of the fairways.  He also likes to be a d!$k just to create controversy.

Jeff, I agee that it was funny.  I just thought it was "typical" Miller.  He says stuff to be controversial just to be controversial.
