Hi everyone,

I've been reading the forum for a few years now and really enjoyed all the course tours.

I'm 36 years old, married with 2 kids. A 2 year old and 3 month old, so probably won't be playing as much golf as the last few years! I'm from the UK and live in Harborne, Birmingham. I've enjoyed reading Sean’s tours of my home course :-) Before Harborne I was a member at Walsall golf club which i don’t believe I’ve seen anyone do a tour of yet, it's a nice course best played in the summer as it gets very very boggy on the winter. I enjoy playing different courses and last year managed to play Burnham & Berrow, Royal Birkdale, West Lancs, Delamere Forest, Royal Porthcawl and several other which my sleep deprived brain can't recall at the moment.

The last few years i've always looked forward to reading the tours for the BUDA, hopefully one year i'll be able to play in one.

If anyone is in the neighborhood and would like a game I’d be happy to host them wife/children and work permitting!

Thanks

Mat

Hi Brian

Ive been to Southport the last couple of years and really enjoyed it.

I love Formby. Royal Birkdale was great if a little pricey. Pleasently surprised by Southport & Ainsdale. West Lancs beat me up, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

Over in Wales i've enjoyed courses like Aberdovery, Royal St Davids, Royal Porthcawl, North Wales Golf Club has some nice holes.

I've played Church Stretton and Welshpool a few times. Each time I go there I seem to pick awful days. At church stretton i experienced all four season in one round, still fun though.

I made a day trip to Burnham last year and thought that was fantastic value.

Locally Beau Desert is good. Sandwell is a good test with some great greens.

I'm usually happy to play anywhere within a 2 hour radius. Living in Brum that gives me a lot of options.

Thanks

Mat

Hi Mat

Welcome, now the fun starts, before you would make a comment to yourself after reading someone’s post, yet now you have the opportunity to respond with your own thoughts. Do so, speak freely and openly, whatever your opinions as it’s important to get a good mix of ideas. Nevertheless, there is only one way to play golf and that is by walking - I hope you are a member of this great 'Band of Walking Golfing Brothers' that plays this great and enjoyable game called Golf.

Look forward to your first topic.

Melvyn

Thanks everyone.

:D Yes i'm a walker and carrier Melvyn. I must confess to using a buggie once. I think it was the Royal course at Vale do Lobo.

Brian i have yet to play golf on the south coast, but if i do i'll look you up. Ive talked about a trip down there rather than Southport a few times. But Southport is so much easier from the Birmingham. Oh and the Surrey heatland courses are definitely on the agenda at some point.

Melvyn, it's typically not your countrymen who are the cart riders, but I did see a few carts in Surrey in September!   :o

Mat, good call on Beau Desert, great course, wonderfully complicated greens.

I hope you do make it to a BUDA soon.   Good crowd and good courses, Silloth this September.

Mat welcome, you might like to think about of our Quirky Cotswold Tour at the end of March, perhaps you can make Painswick on the Friday.

Welcome.  I hope that you enjoy the site as much as I do.  Great discussion and better people, myself excluded.

Mat, welcome!

Hope we can meet up for a round some time?

Walsall, isn't that a MacKenzie course or is my rather tired brain imagining things?

Cheers,

James

Hi Mat,

From a relative newcomer in myself - welcome!

You're only a few minutes away from me as I live in Stourbridge so I'm always open to a round in the local vicinity.

I recently looked at joining Walsall (which is a relatively untouched Mackenzie layout, in answer to James question) but have decided otherwise due in part to the time required to get there and also your point of it not coping well in the winter, so am still looking......  :-\

Cheers,

Neil.

Hi Neil,

We'll have to meet up soon then.

Walsall is a lovely course. Its always in great condtion in the summer. But as i said very boggy in the winter, but they never have temporary greens. They used to put all the flags at the very front in frost conditions. Very friendly membership as well.

Where else are you considering joining? Were you considering Walsall as you work over that direction?

Welcome, Mat.

I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old, so I can relate.  Good luck sneaking in a few rounds this year.

I noticed that you have played a number of courses in Wales.  Have you had a chance to visit Pennard?
