Are these the most "anything" holes on a golf course? I've played the one at BT and not the one at C, but I recall vividly how fearful and confident I felt on the 12th tee at Bandon Trails. These contrasting sentiments conjure up excellence for me. Fearful for the 3-metal I held in my hand, confident that I could keep it in the meadow somewhere, leaving a pitch if not a putt up to the hole. I'd play holes like these for many a day before I tired of them.

Is this nuts?

Ronald:

I have not played the hole at Chechessee, either ... I don't even remember it from my rather quick tour of the place ... but I'm a big fan of the 12th at Bandon Trails and of holes like it.  Such holes are never going to be voted as fan favorites, but they add an important element of variety to the course, and the player who thinks and executes is always rewarded.

Thanks for chiming in, Tom.

As I'm reading the Charles River piece from Ran

http://www.golfclubatlas.com/courses-by-country/usa/charles-river/charles-river-pg-ii/

it appears that #12 fits into this category...interesting because it was Ross and because it was build decades ago. Such a great type of hole, one that appropriately contrasts with the type that, say, Jim Engh might have built (and did) at Tullymore~the 12th, an all-or-nothing shot at 257 yards.
