Maybe the first question should be, "What 18 hole golf courses sit on less than 100 acres?"

Since there can't be a lot, I'll nominate Orchard Hills as sitting on 91 acres including 18 holes, clubhouse, and small driving range, and lots of Douglas fir trees for hole separation.

I don't know the exact acreage, but Wannamoisett is as compact as they come, the golf pride & joy of compact Rhode Island!

The Everglades Club in Palm Beach is on something like 75 acres.  All of the typical Raynor features, only miniaturized.  Short and fun, but can get significantly harder when the wind starts blowing.

I agree with Tim, with a great practice park thrown in.   This might be where golf is headed for many reasons.

My home golf club - Springdale GC in Princeton, NJ could be a candidate.  The club was established in 1895 and re-designed by William Flynn in 1925.  The course itself is sited on under 100 acres abutting the P U Graduate college, Princeton Theo. Semiinary, and an undergrad dorm that was formerly the Princeton Inn.  Cut stone Cleveland Tower (the club symbol) and the old buildings give the course a British Isles feel.

A great course to play regularly and walk since green to tee walks are short.  My friend Malcolm McKinnon and I had some GCAers there in Oct.

My first post, so I hope I have not fractured any protocols.

I think Greg Norman's Tiburon course at Doral was on 97 acres...

A question, what is the acreage of the Old Course (without the Open tees)

I'd be surprised if West Cornwall exceeded 100 acres. It's a fun course on which Long Jim Barnes started his golf.

According to the Links Trust, it's 120 acres (not sure about which tees, but that doesn't effect the boudaries of the course much, does it?), which was more than I was guessing.

Metacomet in East Providence would have to be close to that as well.

Stourbridge Golf Club in the West Midlands fits 6200 yards of golf into 93 acres. I think it used to be credited in Guinness Book of Records as being the most compact course in the UK. I've only played it once, in the mid 1960s when my school had a match against the grammar school in Stourbridge. I lost - heavily, and didn't play for the school again! So I don't really remember a lot about the course, certainly not the last 7 or 8 holes which weren't needed! I had a better record against them at cricket, but I also remember finishing 21st out of 24 at under-15 level in a three-sided cross-country meeting. Shudder, shudder! How are the mighty fallen?

Royal Perth in Australia is on 78 acres - and is a really good course and not that short or easy.

Under 100 acres has to be almost undoable for a decent, full-sized golf course.  In Sacramento, there is the Bartley C Cavanaugh golf course which is laid out on either 91 or 96 acres (I've seen both mentioned) by Perry Dye.  Not only is the golf course bad, it is quite dangerous.  It is the only time I have ever hit another golfer with a wayward shot and I was almost hit by another golfer there.  There is actually a yield sign on one of the cart paths.  They should hand out helmets in the pro-shop to golfers, rather than free tees.

Our gathering back in early November at Springdale was lots of fun.  For those that didn't catch that thread with the photos, the entire photo album is here:
