Ok, since the event is nearly upon us, let me summarize:
(for those hardy ones desiring a golf fix, you can play Paxon that afternoon; discount rate provided by Dan M)
Formal festivities:
They begin at 5 PM where the buffet dinner will be served near Annie's Bar adjacent to the pro shop. A real nice spread will be there, all for a simple price of 25 bucks (pay me by cash or check, please). Soft drinks are provided, and a cash bar.
Presentations to begin at 6 PM sharp.
Batting leadoff will be Pete Trenham. A neat 9 minute video of the history of the Philadelphia Section of the PGA will be shown (lots of neat old pictures that Pete will elaborate on). He'll then give a short presentation on "Early Golf in Philadelphia".
Next up will by the 'mystery speaker', now revealed as Jeff Silverman. Jeff will simply hold a conversation on what he and others consider to be the golf course that brought us into the 'modern era'.
Our keynote speaker will be architect Stephen Kay. His presentation will focus on the building of the Architects Club but also about whether the old architects did "grass down or flashed sand?"
As a quick nightcap yours truly may present a hint of some of my latest research findings on early Philly area golf history, including some findings I'm confident nobody in the audience has likely ever seen or knew about.
