Ok, since the event is nearly upon us, let me summarize:

(for those hardy ones desiring a golf fix, you can play Paxon that afternoon; discount rate provided by Dan M)

Formal festivities:

They begin at 5 PM where the buffet dinner will be served near Annie's Bar adjacent to the pro shop.  A real nice spread will be there, all for a simple price of 25 bucks (pay me by cash or check, please).  Soft drinks are provided, and a cash bar.

Presentations to begin at 6 PM sharp.

Batting leadoff will be Pete Trenham.  A neat 9 minute video of the history of the Philadelphia Section of the PGA will be shown (lots of neat old pictures that Pete will elaborate on).  He'll then give a short presentation on "Early Golf in Philadelphia".

Next up will by the 'mystery speaker', now revealed as Jeff Silverman.  Jeff will simply hold a conversation on what he and others consider to be the golf course that brought us into the 'modern era'.

Our keynote speaker will be architect Stephen Kay.  His presentation will focus on the building of the Architects Club but also about whether the old architects did "grass down or flashed sand?"

As a quick nightcap yours truly may present a hint of some of my latest research findings on early Philly area golf history, including some findings I'm confident nobody in the audience has likely ever seen or knew about.

Oh man, I'm PSYCHED for the Philly GCA weekend.  Looks like a good crew, maybe some good golf, and a great set of topics for discussion.

For some reason, "grass down vs. flashed-up" reminded me of a speech topic my high school English teacher gave out: "toilet-seat up vs. toilet-seat down."

Also, for anyone is thinking of not playing golf on Saturday: I'll direct you to Kevin Lynch's winter Byrncliff thread.  Sadly, I won't be sporting a Tebow jersey for the Philly outing.

Sadly, I won't be sporting a Tebow jersey for the Philly outing.

That's a shame.
I was looking foward to putting on my Polamalu jersey and blindsiding you into the buffet table.  :)

Would that be before or after I throw the 80-yard game-winning TD pass?  ;D

If any of the attendees has a DVD player and decent length HDMI cord connection, can you please contact me?  I might be in need of that for the video presentation desired.

Blustery, Baltic conditions on tap tomorrow for the hearty Philly contingent. When does the golf at Paxon commence provided we're not in whiteout mode? No matter, it will be a merry day... and evening... for sure!

5 PM.  Messy conditions really just tonight into mid-morning.  Should be fine in the afternoon.  Either way, the show is on!

The cancelations are rolling in.  Perhaps I should have listened to a friend to say you need to request payment in advance.  I've learned my lesson.

For those that are going to show, it will be a small but great crowd.  Thank you.

As one who lives a few miles from Paxon I can report the weather event is over and the conditions around here are fine. I think we should be above freezing in minutes. Doesn't look good for golf though!

I just drove into school and the roads are pretty good already.  Just give yourself a little extra time, and be careful right around the golf course as it is a bit curvy there.

THANK YOU JOE!
What a great evening - To hear about the history of the Philly PGA, to the home movies of Ross at 'Mink, to the Philadelphia Golfer treasure to the Links of North Dakota it was GREAT!

And to think we were able to simultaneously attend a sweet 16 party! :)

Great stuff, Joe!!!!!!

Pete Trenham's encyclopeadic knowledge of early Philly golf, ; Jeff Silverman's enthusiasm for his history writing and his reasoned approach to Wilson at Merion, Stephen Kay's passion for his work and art's influence on his ideas; Joe Bausch's hospitality and gushing over his latest find----what an evening.

Thanks again Joe for putting together a fantastic event!  The speakers were excellent and it was great to see everyone.  Hopefully we can get most of the same crew up to Schuylkill CC in the spring!

Joe,

Just as a well mashed approach looked askance down upon the "Bridge of Sighs" and Cobbs Creek to find the receptive embrace of sweet, verdant, 1/4" cut rapture.

So, also we were transported.

A terrific night, Thanks,

Malcolm
