Philly GCA Winter Dinner (Saturday, January 21): wrap-up
« on: December 13, 2011, 03:10:39 PM »
After a year hiatus, looks like a Philly GCA winter dinner is back in play!

Tentative plans:

Date:  January 21 (Saturday)
Time:  5 PM till ??
Location:  Paxon Hollow Country Club
Golf:  if the day is warm, play golf beforehand at this wonderful course run by GCAer Dan Malley
Format:  buffet dinner (cash bar) followed by presentations. I'm lining up speakers now, with one confirmed, one tentative, and others in the works.
Cost:  probably around 25 bucks for the buffet.

Please respond with your interest by e-mail (preferred) or PM.

You must play Paxon if you have not. It will be fun with frozen greens.

It looks like you do not have worry about a conflict with an Eagles playoff game!

Joe,

Yule-tide greetings my friend! I'm in if I'm about the neighborhood. Hard to believe, but I've never teed it up at Paxon.

Cheers,

Joe,

I'm in...unless my Steelers (yes, a Northern NJ native living in Philly area is a Steelers fan) host the AFC Championship Game the next day, in which case I'll be attending the game and will need to rest up and mentally prepare for the long day.

I am sure that i can come up with a special reduced golf rate for anyone who wants to play PH that day. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I will post the rate info here when i get it. I will most likely attend, although my family frequently takes ski trips to the Poconos that time of year.

Now that is a wonderful offer!  If it is nice that weekend Archie could we consider adding Greate Bay as a Sunday morning round?  I'm thinking some folks will have traveled in and might be interested in a round on Sunday before driving home.

Ok, time to announce the tentatively lined up speakers for our event on January 21st:

Pete Trenham (long time pro at St. Davids and one of the best historians in the area)
Jim Wagner (Gil Hanse's, aka the Malvern Missile, right-hand man; Jim also has done much work at Paxon Hollow)
Stephen Kay (Stephen is the architect of many golf courses in the region; he also has taught in the turf grass program at Rutgers University for the last 26 years).
And a special mystery guest speaker.

So those of you that have not yet committed to attend the event, please do so now!

I have been authorized to reveal the identity of the "mystery guest speaker. " Here he is:

Hyman Roth to Michael Corleone: "We're bigger than US Steel."

We are up to 20 attendees now.  The room at Paxon is not large so we are capped at 40 people.  Get your spot now.

Our special mystery guest will likely provide an update on a project of enormous interest.

Joe,

Since I'll be in AZ then, will there be videos of the speakers available for non attendees?

Maybe.

Or perhaps we can live stream it somehow.  Never done such a thing, but it can't be that hard to do.
