Thanks again Joe for re-posting.

Joe is assembling information and helping me create a timeline for the architectural history of North Hills.  Happy to have Tom Paul working on this as well.  Thanks guys.

The 10th hole did indeed get "buried" in fill and the quarry on the right side was essentially lost.  That same quarry also influenced the original 18th.  There were quarries on numbers 7 and 14 as well.  Hopefully we can restore some of those features as we go.

Joe can post some Dallin photos when he gets a chance.

Glad to be helping North Hills.  Great bunch of people!

I'm glad they are moving in the right direction.  There are a few holes where I felt the back tee was unnecessarily crammed in to gain a few extra yards, creating an awkward tee shot.

Maybe taking trees out will help.  And you're right...10 tee is claustrophobic during the season.

Here is an updated photo album after a visit last weekend:

That album also includes some Dallin aerials showing how more dramatic the quarries used to be.

And I've compiled all my NH early history articles in one 'album':

Lester George has already begun work on the course, improving the 3rd and 7th greens which each had some serious tilt.  I'll have some photos of those next year.

The Philadelphia area has a ton of tremendous designs, so North Hills (and others) seem to get lost in the shuffle. However, North Hills is a very fun golf course to play with some wonderful ground movement throughout the property, including an old quarry.

Was that a water hazard that cut across the ninth in 1924? Excuse my ignorance, but if so, where did it go?

Sure looks like a creek.  I'm wondering if that was piped underground.

It was piped.  Does not show on Flynns plans either.

OT, but cool nevertheless: North Hills' PGA golf ambassador and former PGA of America president, Jack Connelly, nearly shot his age last week during the PGA Delegate Outing on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Mr. Connelly shot a 69; he is 68 years young. The man can still play and whoop a lot of competitor's butts.

I got my first look at this place this week.  It is hard to believe how under the radar this place remains.  The Dalin photos in Joe Bausch's link are really great, the picture of #1 in particular.

The website of NH describes the course as having 'tight...tree lined fairways'.  Many of the pictures also look over treed and tight.  Is this the case?

I'm an anti-tree zealot, yet I don't find NH to be over-treed.  Maybe a couple of holes could use some pruning, but most are wider than the pictures suggest.
