This may be off topic, but the Travis Society would like all who are interested in matters involving golf course architects and turfgrass managers to know about the scholarships we offer for students pursuing those professions.

In addition, to honor Walter Travis, North America's outstanding amateur golfer of the early 1900s, our scholarship is available to outstanding amateur golfers whose course of study is preparing them for a career in fields outside the golf industry.

More information about The Walter J. Travis Memorial Scholarships may be found at:  www.travissociety.com

Your assistance in spreading the word of our scholarships is greatly appreciated.

Ed,

Thanks for making this fine schloarship program known to the treehouse! Though Mr. Travis found the game late, there is no question he totally immersed himself in it once he did. Walter certainly would have found fast friends in the company of the GCA denizens that frequent this site! I'll happily support your organization and this nice effort to foster those next-generation golfing folks who wish to champion the game in whatever form moves them.

Cheers and keep up the noble work,

"I said in a talk at the Dunhill Tournament in St. Andrews a few years back that I thought any of the caddies I'd had that week would probably make a good golf course architect. We all want to ask golfers of all abilities to get more out of their games -caddies do that for a living." T.Doak

My thanks to those who have responded to this post.  Having reviews just over a hundred scholarship applications from throughout the U.S. and Canada in the three years of our scholarship program, I am very impressed with the character of students pursuing careers in some phase of the golfing industry.  I'm confident that the game we love will continue to be in good hands.  And, someday, they'll be taking over thiis "treehouse" (per Kris Shreiner).
