Re: Sherwood - would it be a better Ryder Cup venue than Medinah?

Sherwood is fine just where it is, as a nice weather venue for a silly season cash grab.

How is that different than any Ryder Cup for everyone but the players?
To me there isn't a difference but I haven't watched a shot of the Ryder Cup since probably the one at Kiawah.

Otherwise I think Shelly gives a nice summary of Medinah's advantages from a logistical perspective. Plus it could get really hot at Sherwood in September.

I have enjoyed the responses to my original post. Yes, it looks like it is not particularly spectator friendly, but I was at Kiawah, which is also not an easy walk, and saw that not everyone makes the 18 hole trek, especially with the crowds. And the natural ampitheater (like Riviera) behind the last green looked like a neat setting for a closing match. What struck me is that Kiawah had holes won with eagles, pars and bogies, and that is what I saw this week. It was more about that than Sherwood in itself. As others have remarked, I would love Riviera. Maybe the best thing about any of those courses mentioned in the replies is that we could have Ryder Cup matches ending in prime time. I think we have seen how evening events like the open at Torrey Pines or some of the Australian events can bring in a different audience. To that degree I would like almost any good west coast venue.

After watching a great President's Cup at Royal Melbourne, I would not bother to turn on the TV to watch matchplay at Sherwood.

I certainly do not like Sherwood as a Ryder Cup course. I think Royal Melbourne was an outstanding match play course.  Augusta National is the Ryder Cup course of all Ryder Cup courses in the US.
