The World Hickory Golfer plays Askernish – See December’s issue (http://www.worldhickorygolfer.com/  )

This is a must to read, its even has a few pages on the good old US of A plus Askernish and the Hickory Open next March. I will say no more, just read and see some great photos of Askernish in the process.

Well done Lionel, another great issue, keep the good work up

I guess Melvyn forgot to tell us to click on the "Return of Old Tom" to get to the pictures. Once at the article, click the right arrow to page through the pictures.

telling us that would've been akin to solving the puzzle for us, or worse yet, like riding a cart :o :o. ;D

Great pictures.

Future BUDA? foursomes with shared hickories?
If you're going to play 5 rounds in the same spot, what better spot?

Thanks Melvyn

I do not, as I am often accused on this site of always promoting Old Tom, hence no mention of my great, great grandfather.

I was trying to encourage golfers, yes not players but GOLFERS to visit Askernish and take part in the Hickory Open. It was a way of pushing both items that are close to my golfing heart in the same topic.

Those able to visit GB in late March please do try and make it to South Uist and join in the local ‘Open’. It will be a great opportunity to play Askernish but with the equipment it was originally designed for while experiencing the real raw and beautiful game of golf as it was played when exported worldwide.

Come share with other golf nuts from all over the world, come test your real golfing skills without the aid of modern technology and see just how good a golfer you really are - in fact can you afford to miss this opportunity.

For further information contact Ralph at Askernish or Lionel at The World Hickory Golfer - it’s going to be a real gathering of the golfing clans, come and be a part of it. It will be an experience you will never forget.

So will anyone from GCA.com be playing at Askernish in the Hickory Open?

What no takers - well out of 1200 not one, clearly all we get on this site is TALK but no commitment let alone action, unless it’s a warm day, lots of carts and distance aids by the GPS load. :)

The game is going to the dogs, in fact the dogs can't be bothered, you all are just a load of hot air, hell if you guys were around in the 19th Century, golf would (I expect) have been too difficult for you, so you would have taken up another (easy) sport.  :'(

Mice or Men - seems GCA.com can do the talk but can't do the WALK.  ;)

Melvyn - Is this an invitation to join YOU at Askernish late March ???......I'd thought you were loathe to cross the Minch, even if by air !!
Unfortunately I'm committed to be in the field in Kansas on test wells then. I'd have used my old Hogan Apex 11 blades and early Titleist metal woods that now live in Askernish's wee clubhouse -- not hickory, but close (we lefties make do as well as possible).
