2011 Pictures of the Year Contest - Finalists Now Up
« on: December 04, 2011, 05:20:35 PM »
Having been chosen as the winner of Ben Sims' Aggregate Course Competition, I thought I'd spread the love a bit by offering up a token prize (TBD) for the submitter of the Official GCA Picture of the Year.

Here are the rules:

1.  One submission per contestant (all additional shots should be submitted in the expected B-Side thread);
2.  Photos have to have been taken in 2011;
3.  Submission period will run until December 20th (picture must be posted, not linked);
4.  Following the submission period, the Committee will choose five photos as the finalists (to be posted on the 22nd);
5.  Voting on the finalists will be open to all with one vote per participant (votes can be submitted by PM or by post on this thread any time between the 22nd and the 31st; and
6.  The winner will be announced on January 1st.

One final tweak, you're allowed to nominate a picture taken by someone else, and that picture is eligible for the contest and does not count as the photographer's submission.  It does count as your submission.  The prize would go to the actual photo taker, not the submitter.

Good luck, and bring on the pics.

I feel so sorry for everyone that has to compete with this...

This won't win or anything, but it's my favorite picture I took this year. This was in January on a cold day at Roddy Ranch. This is the 9th tee.

I like this one I took of Jason Topp at Fallen Oak.  That is really where his tee shot ended up!

There's no whizzing in that photo. Hopefully Sven has selected a panel with a little more astute eye for the judging.  I appreciate the non participating critics trying to bring the clear cut winner down to size.  It can take a while to accept and appreciate great art.

I'm very proud to have taken this with my phone  :D

And trust me, if I showed any more of the course itself (Los Verdes GC) this picture would probably not be too great.

This picture of Angel Cabrera playing Cypress point is pretty nice!

(Edit: I was just informed that this is not Angel Cabrera, it is our own Gene Greco! Who knew)

Model:     Elaine Zuckerman  (Sadly, a non-golfer..but I could have done worse in the wife dapartment I suppose..)

And there can be no greater praise for a work of art than that it includes no whizzing!!

Nicely done, my man - let me be the first to congratulate you!!

This is my favorite picture of 2011, and also my favorite course of the year. The setting really makes me seem a lot better at taking photos.

Jim,

That is a tremendous photograph.

Mac,

Are you sure you would not like to replace your previous entry with the photograph you took today of my wonderful tee shot at #8.
