Myanmar Golf Do Generals everywhere like to play golf?
« on: December 01, 2011, 07:56:06 PM »
I was reading about Myanmar/Burma today given it is in the news. As I googled as few areas, I noticed a large humber of golf courses. I understand the British established the game there in the early 1900's. I was surprised it has thrived or survived in good shape during the recent years of military rule including moving power to a separate city. Has anyone been there  to test the status of golf and the quality of the designs? Some looked pretty god on google.

I can't say if golf has been good on the Burma Rd.  But, it looks like the Paki generals could tee off from the lawn at OBLs compound in Abbottabad, and like Shivas plays Reverse Jans, make up a par 5 with driver, three wood, onto the post grad college north lawn, and sand wedge to the corner of College and Hospital ave.s, where they could use the triangle street terrace as a green, then tee off northwards up hospital rd and hit the nearest green on Abbottabad CC as a drivable par 4 if OBL was a long stick, or lay up short of the water and flip it on, easy par probable birdie or eagle. They could play a cool 20 holes that way. With all the military colleges just a close few hundred yards, I'd have to guess the generals there had some notorious member-guest events!

Take a look:

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

RJ That is actually part of what got me to check this out. I was a bit surprised how close Osama was to quality golf in his compound in Generals Row Subdivision. The number of courses in Myanmar was amazing. I will do so more research myself. My hats off to the Brits for taking the game with them everywhere they went.
