does anyone have a pic of the routing?   how what is the farthest you are away from the clubhouse?   I can see some players just playing it in an infinite loop at the end of the day.

It starts and finishes near the 1st tee at Bandon Trails!

Does anyone know for sure that the Preserve is part of the free golf after 36 policy?

I have never heard that confirmed and have always suspected that it will not be part of the deal.

There is nothing on the website - no pricing at all for BP.  When does it open to the public, or is it already and the webmaster is bit behind?

There is a very cool par three course on the back of the range that is free, or they request an honorarium, I forget. I like it because it is very empty.

what is the pricing scheme for BP?  Is it the same as the rest of the courses?

I can see it getting packed at night as people play their 3rd round of free golf.

Some details from Golf Digest:

Opens:               May 1, 2012.
Green fee:         $100
Replay rate:        $50
3rd round rate:   Article doesn't say if $50 or free

I'm mostly interested at this point to see if people will pay that....even $50 seems like a ton for a 12 hole par 3 course...regardless of how great the setting is.

Joe,

Thanks for the pics and info. Is it me or are those white suits the caddies wear just awful. For a place as progressive as Bandon Dunes, I'd have thought they'd have gotten rid of that nonsense a LONG time ago. Just because Augusta and a bunch of other facility followers wear them doesn't mean that is the way to go. That white suit is a leftover from the vestiges of the discrimination era in the South and has NO PLACE in golf today! Those folks who champion the white suit can squirm all they want...look at early pictures of the Masters...there was NO WHITE SUIT...caddies wore regular clothes...What was the matter, they might actually look like regular human beings?!

I've heard all sorts of explanations and bizarre excuse making to try and justify why they are still O.K. and acceptable. It's all B.S. keep ya down horse#%?! Some caddies, generally lazy ones that like the ease of having to put on just one form of attire, have swallowed the koolaid and actually endorse it. Where's you're self respect you clowns? It degrading and totally uncomfortable in many cases.

From a marketing standpoint, it's the DUMBEST thing I've every witnessed on a golf course. Think about it. The facility,  be it a private or public destination,  has 3-5 hours of unmatched, intimate personal time, with their caddie staff able to elevate the presentation of the  experience AND create a lasting impression of their brand. Who the hell ever left with a white suit for themselves or their buddies? Thank you...NO ONE! So why on earth would you stuff your caddies in some stupid, white suit when you could have them in sharp, logo'd attire of quality to BEST reflect the unique location and memories of that time spent together.

The quality and presentation of your caddie staff should reflect the caliber and expectation of your golfers. Why wouldn't you strive for the best, especially if you wish to be regarded as an exceptional golf experience. I personally helped sell tens of thousands of dollars of golf apparel and gifts when I've worked at both elite private, and public, golf facilities. I got not one nickel from it, but I took pride in being well-turned out, in distinctive garb sold in the facility shop, WHENEVER I stepped to the first tee to caddie for players.
They would frequenty comment on how nice the garment looked and I would then make them aware of where they could find it in the golf shop. Serious profits are being missed by ANY facility of quality that STILL has their caddies in white suits.

These observations and comments were not meant to thread-jack, but as many on this site hold Bandon Dunes in high regard(and I do in most cases), this issue/area needs some updating.

Cheers,
Kris 8)

Kris-I understand your passion for caddies and caddie programs. That said I wonder if a guy who takes the time to start a thread about Bandon`s new course and post some great pictures deserves to get lectured and talked down to. Wrong thread and unduly aggressive tact IMO for your rant.

Thanks for the backup but I have very thick skin and Kris's comments are hilarious to me.  I carried over 500 golf bags this year  and have been doing it FULL TIME for 8 years so my own advice and consul I'll take when it comes to what uniform is best to do the job in.  I'm also sure that someone who comes from a program that has lost most of its work to carts isn't an expert on anything looper related....and to name drop on GCA is the cherry on the cake.

By the way, it is 13 holes, but who's counting.  Thanks for the pricing.  $100 seems steep.  In know a resort guest in high season pays $230 for the round at the other courses, but $100 for 13 holes of a par three.  Maybe they figure it will be played predominantly as a 2nd or 3rd round at a significantly reduced rate.

Going back to an unanswered questions, Joe, is it open yet?

Thanks for the pics.  Trying to figure out when I can get back there with my son - Disneyland or Bandon?

I think it opens late May or June.  It is definitely not open now.

I will play it once or twice per visit in all likelihood.  After 18 on arrival, or after 36 any other day.

Tim,

I appreciate your opinion and you are entitled to it. When someone says they almost lost their coffee after reading something and it is directed at me, I'll handle it in the way I see fit. Thanks.

Joe,

I'm glad that you caddie and love your job. From what you state, you've been at BD fulll-time for eight years. Great. Where else have you caddied? You like the white suit. Super. My offer stands. You obviously don't wish to go there or you would be firing right back.

Pebble Beach has not lost caddie loops to the cart. The cart has been part of the golf offerings at PB for decades. In fact the caddies classic line to all who are thinking about a cart is..."You want to walk Pebble, take a cart! ;D"

I've caddied for over five years each at numerous (7 different facilities) places, both East Coast and West Coast, including Merion, and a host of other places. Name drop? Please. I'm stating context, because when people pop off and don't really know the full scope of the subject matter, I will weigh in with my take when I've lived it for decades. People can decide where the reality really lies.

Outside of my deep love for the game and special ground, after lurking for quite a while, I joined this site after reading some of the utter nonsense on caddies that sometimes finds its way on this forum. These comments often included folks that "caddied." I don't claim to be the all-knowing deity on caddie golf, though I do believe VERY FEW folks have spent more time educating themselves on its history and current state, nationally or worldwide. I'm speaking mainly to the private club and public destination golf landscape, not the tour ranks, though I've got a strong feel for that aspect as well.

The last individual I'm looking to get into a contentious discussion with is a fellow caddie.  I followed the entire evolution of BD very closely when it came together.  I was just down the coast and certainly would look at an opportunity to move if it made sense. The program was NOT very good when it started. Gradually, as great golf ground with caddie golf usually does, the staff drew folks that had done the job, loved the game, and the locals learned their craft. Your staff there today is solid in the main, though I still read and hear quite frequently about poor caddie experiences there. With what, close to three hundred caddies of one form or another, there's bound to be some mediocre efforts once in a while.

I salute and applaud what Mike and your team have achieved there. He ran against conventional industry thinking(smart move!); as a caddie himself when he was younger, I assume he was a fan of caddie golf. The game needs to foster and support caddie golf wherever financially viable. Any facility that backs that mantra has my thanks and support!

Caddie on Joe! When I make my way out West next and get up to BD, I'd be happy to have you pack for me and squire me around the tracks if you're interested. I believe we would enjoy our time together.

Respectfully,
Kris 8)

Now that you are in full thread jack mode...how bout the $100 fee for the Preserve?? I was fortunate to play a preview round in the Sun w/ a little wind at Thanksgiving.. my favorite holes are #1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 11.

I like the white suits and black raingear for the caddies as they are functional and simple.. Later up or down underneath.. Providing a professional look to those who otherwise may need help, lol.

The white suits look great on gals at Master's party, maybe Bandon should sell the suits in the pro shop, hahaha

Love the folks at Bandon past and present.

Thanks

Joe -

Thanks for the fantastic pictures!  I'll be there in mid-July next year and certainly plan to play a round on the Preserve.  From what you've seen, does the course need to grow in more, or is it pretty much ready for play?

Joe,
...
Hope the coffee stains didn't hit that white uniform.

Kris, Please get real... Didn't your momma ever teach you that its easier to clean white than colored clothing?

Now..
The Bandon Preserve course sure looks like another reason to get back there... 8)

Had the chance to walk the Preserve the day after Joe took these photos. Its a really cool little place. The routing runs linear three holes out and three holes back with the seven middle holes sort of spiraling down around and up on top of a dune. Its really neat, although I have to admit I would have a tough time paying $100 to play it. As I understand it will be run completely separate from the other courses due to its charitable contributions. If this is the case it would seem unlikely the fee structure would be a part of replays on the other courses.
