I played here a couple of times in the mid-90s, back when I didn't know a whole lot about GCA.

It is a fine course and you can see a couple of holes from I-74. It was certainly fun with some elevation change for being in flat Central Illinois. There are some spots where chain saw work might be appropriate.

I believe he had Perry Dye do a Masterplan shortly after he bought it.  Heard the Clubhouse was slated for a major redo too. Urbana has had drainage issues over the years. I think the last work done on the course was around the time we were doing Stone Creek by a local, downstate architect who's name escapes me (he dated Brent Wadsworth's daughter for forever).

I've played Urbana a bunch of times as I'm sure Potts has.  I would say its decent and above average for the area. 

As for Shahid he really has lived the American dream and he realizes it and is very thankful for the opportunities that he has earned.  He's a great guy and a proud Illini.
