I met several golf dorks at Palmetto Club last night and played 36 holes with them today.  Now these guys have the latest in golf shoes, bags and all types of "ground" game.  BUT when I got there it was cold and they were all in a circle in the pro shop warmong up with the greatest golf nerd/dork training aid I have seen in a long time.  I think next time GCA orders bags they should order one of these with each.  You can see it here:

Some left early
(36 holes ?) to play with.their toys

You spend a good amount of time recalling all of the great places you have been fortunate to have played over 30+ years, then post it.

You think trees on golf courses are bad and should be cut down.

You love courses that to the rest of the world look dessicated, burned out and in dire need of water.

Amen to that Donal,

Everytime I would go to a "new" event, my wife would ask.  How do you know these people are who they say they are.  I say trust me, I've seen pictures....they aren't exactly the bruiser types!! :)

Kalen:

That is spot on.  My wife thinks I am nuts.  She keeps saying "you met this guy on the internet?? you have plenty of friends, why do you need to make friends on the internet?"  She thinks that I am a total nerd for my "golf course" books and other stuff.  So according to my wife, this is a redundant thread, as our mere involvement on the site qualifies.  I just tell her "till death do us part" so you better get used to it.

In answer to your question, here are some signs where I realized that I had "jumped the shark":

1.  You find yourself saving things like pencils, matches and shoe horns from courses that you have played.  Honestly, what I am going to do with this stuff.

2.  You have (1) an Excel spreadsheet of over 500 golf courses in the US that include links to all articles on the internet concerning the course, the architect, year opened, city and state and where it could fall in a trip (ie.  Sawgrass is more likely to be included in a Sea Island trip, than any Florida trip), and (2) photo files on every great course that you have played with tee, fairway and green shots.

3.  You know who Ann Liguori is because she hosts a charity outing at Maidstone every year.

You call your fiancé that you will be late for the wedding because you were two under on the first nine and you just have to play the second nine.  Me in 1968.  We are still married

You are my new hero
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I will contribute a few...

- You own more than 3 golf course architecture books in your library
- You know at least 5 golf architects not named Ross, MacKenzie, Old Tom, Jones, Dye, Palmer, and Nicklaus
- You can name at least 50 courses on top 100 lists without any aid (and top 10 in order for GD, GW, and GM)
- You can name more than 3 bunker styles
- You can name more than 10 template holes (bonus for knowing the original template holes)
- You travelled more than 1000 miles to play a single course

Your priorities at Colgate should be:

1) The Jug
2) Girls
3) GCA.com
4) Your golf game
5) Schoolwork, I guess?

Oh trust me, these GCA contemplations are at 4 AM not 8:30 :)
Let me set a more realistic priority schedule:
1) Girls
2) The Jug (or Nichols or any other place down town except for Slices)
3) Girls again
4) the study grind
5) GCA
6) how could you possibly think I can play golf in November (pretty much December) in hamilton NY?  I don't care how dedicated you are, with the wind chill and afternoon snow sprinkles, you'd have to be crazy to actually be golfing now

GCA > Studying, no doubt.  No snow on the ground, golf can be played.  No excuses, play like a champion.
