What has...
Ęthe divine intervention?
ĘThe spirit?
ĘThe history?
ĘThe accessability? Ę(In January)
ĘThe pride of its local town?
ĘThe shot values?
ĘThe endless discussion?
ĘThe strategies?
ĘIts natural randomness?
ĘThe mysteries?
ĘThe reverance?
Theo. Wirth in Minneapolis Minnesota, where I grew up.  The divine intervention is god letting the weather be OK for golf: no snow, no tornados, no heat index in excess of 400.
The spirit and the history: the hundreds of thousands of 9-hole after-work golf leaguers who have played there.
Accessability in January -- January 1979, we all cut out of work at 9:30 am, went home, grabbed our clubs and played till it got dark. In Mpls that's about 4pm in January.
Pride of the local town -- North Minneapolis.
Shot values, endless discussion ... all that 3.2 beer in the "clubhouse" post round.
Strategies and natural randomness -- go there. Play.  You'll see...the railroad ties associated with the course actually tie the tracks together of a real railroad, where the grain and sugar beets come rumbling through.
The reverence?  Well, go gophers, I guess! Repeat hockey champs and wanna-be's this year in golf I suppose, but you can't have everything.
