. At Riverfront in VA, I remember specifically telling Eric Iverson to look at the green sites from twenty yards left of the pole and twenty yards right, and try to make the approach shot really different from those two spots.
Other holes presented previously at Riverfront, in Suffolk, VA were the 4th hole a medium length par 3, on the RDG web site as one of their best holes and the 5th hole illustrating the Tom Doak quote on a dogleg left hole.
The 10th hole illustrates that quote also, but in a different way.
The 10th is a unique hole on the course as it has the only true centerline fairway bunker in play off the tee (the 1st hole does have a centerline fairway bunker but does not really come into play) on the course. The 8th & 9th have cross bunkers, the 14th hole has bunkers on the inside corner of the fishhook left and the 16th hole has a fairway bunker within the mowing lines guarding the corner of a right hand dogleg.
From the Blue Tee to carry the centerline bunker from the back tee is 267 (a reason why few play from back there). To carry the wetland is a chore too from the Blue Tees.
Course sequencing here is interesting. The 9th is a dogleg right about 390 with about the most back to front severely sloping big knob on the side, green on the course. The 11th is the shortest hole that is fairly simple if there is no wind. The 12th, 13th and 14th are the teeth of the course, being a par 4, par 3 and a par 5 respectively. The 15th hole, a cape from the back tees, is the most picturesque.

The cardinal orientation of the hole is east northeast. The hole plays generally down wind in the summer and either down wind or up wind in the winter. Rarely plays with a true crosswind.
A clear decision off the tee must be made.
From the White Tee
The salient feature of this hole is how flagstick locations opens up or closes down depending on which side of the fairway the approach shot is struck. The green is canted slightly, as viewed from the tee, front being on the left and the back being to the right. The approach from the left is optimally situated for a back right flag and the reverse is true for the front left hand flag.
These pictures in the landing zone about a 120 out go from left to right across the width of the hole. For the first time golfer here, I remind them that Riverfront is a non-flat flat course.
Both greenside bunkers are must not miss there areas. What is not clear is where to miss which is left and slightly long. Many more friendly green contours from that direction. Viewed from the landing zone, the green generally cants left.
